Age of Roon Nucleus

Is it possible to determine how old a Roon Nucleus is from the serial number or other hardware information.

Hello @Shaun_Ledgerwood,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

Based on the diagnostic data associated with your account, I can only see ROCK devices currently linked. Could you kindly clarify your request—are you looking to determine the age of the Intel NUC device running Roon OS, or are you inquiring about the age of a specific Nucleus, Nucleus+, or Nucleus Titan device based on its serial number?

Once we have more details, we’ll be happy to assist further.

No, I’m looking to buy a second hand Roon Nucleus and I’d like to confirm how old it is. Thanks.

I think you should be aware that any warranty is unlikely to be transferable. The Roon Store T&C state:

Warranty on Goods purchased from the Roon Store applies to the original purchaser. The warranty does not extend to any other person or transferee and terminates at time of transfer.

Thanks. I’m not really concerned about warranties, I’m more interested in knowing how old the unit is.

I have the serial number of the device. Will you be able to tell me how old it is?

Hello @Shaun_Ledgerwood,

Could you kindly provide the serial number and the device model (e.g., Nucleus One, Plus, or Titan)?

Thanks Vadim, the serial number is 54B203F69EAE, it is a Nucleus plus, although I think probably came before the Nucleus 1 and the Titan were introduced, so maybe back then was just called the Nucleus.

Nope, the Nucleus and the Nucleus+ were distinct models, with differing capabilities. Roughly speaking:

Nucleus = Nucleus One
Nucleus+ = Nucleus Titan.

Thanks Geoff. So Vadim the model is the Nucleus 1.

Er, no, can you clarify what you are saying? I thought you were saying that the model you had was either a Nucleus or a Nucleus+ - the Nucleus One (and Nucleus Titan) are newer generation devices.

Sorry this is just getting very confusing for me. I have no idea what is going on or what model I am talking about. Maybe just ignore my request. I am just buying a thing called a Nucleus by Roon. I don’t know anything more than that. Thanks anyway everyone.

OK, but just to clarify what models of the Nucleus family are out there, in the history of Roon Labs, they have introduced 6 models of the Nucleus over the years:

  • Nucleus Revision A
  • Nucleus+ Revision A
  • Nucleus Revision B
  • Nucleus+ Revision B
  • Nucleus One
  • Nucleus Titan

The revision A and B models differed by having a redesigned case for revision B, but internally I believe that the same components were used in both revisions.

Thank you Geoff.

I have a Nucelus rev B purchased new from Roon mid 2023 with SN 54B203F69Exx that appears to be close to or around the SN you are enquiring about. This may provide a ballpark indication as to the age of the unit you are looking at.

Hi @Shaun_Ledgerwood ,

I was able to locate that Nucleus in our system and it looks like it was active since Jan 2022. Hope this helps!
