Hi @Jaime_Wojick,
Welcome to the Roon community. Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue.
This is what you want. If you run Roon as a remote on any of your devices that will allow you to connect to and control your Roon server. Can you show the screen that you usually see when starting Roon?
Once we can get you consistently connecting to your Roon server we will tackle your report of an issue with Chromecast.
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the response. Oddly, I was able to get the remote functionality working today. I literally have no idea how, but it just showed up when I logged out of my phone and the other MacBook. There is still some wonkiness (roon arc and chromecast) but overall I am able to play from my library currently and it’s pretty fantastic. I’ll continue to mess about to see if I can get the other stuff working.
Chromecast is the built in version on my LG C3 so I am thinking that might be the issue. I have. a dedicated chromecast that I can give a shot.
Ok, more progress today.
I was able to get the display working. The built in chromecast appears to be more stable now for some reason (didn’t really do anything differently so it’s all a head scratcher, but not questioning at this point). Screen saver pops on intermittently, which is a bit annoying, but not overly so.
On the arc front, it appears that I could configure it correctly, but I will have to check it out next time I leave the apt.
Appreciate all of the help. It does look like a super slick setup.
Curious as to what benefit the Nucleus One would add to the current setup vs the access points I have currently:
Apple TV
Wiim Ultra
MacBook Pro x 2
Ipad
Iphone
Nas
Is the Nucleus overkill or will it greatly add to the overall setup?
We are glad to hear that there’s been improvement on your end and the system is working better now!
Does this happen after a set period of time (5/10/15 minutes) or does it occur randomly? We did have a bug in this area that’s been solved a while ago, and I didn’t see the issue reoccur on my end after several hours of playback on a Chromecast TV, but perhaps your TV is configured differently. If you can let us know the exact local time + date + track playing when it pops up again, we’ll enable diagnostics to see if there are any hints in logs.
The Nucleus One would serve as an “always on” appliance, meaning it would be ready to play music at a moment’s notice, and the only job of the Nucleus would be to use it with Roon (you cannot install other apps/programs/browsers/etc.), so it will dedicate all its resources to achieving the best music experience for you. If you’d like to learn more about the Nucleus, I suggest checking out the manual below, hope this helps!
Hi Noris,
Thanks for the reply.
On my main listening station (Apple TV 4k Gen 2 / LG C3), the clock screen saver appears to pop mainly around 3 minutes, but sometimes it will not pop at all. There is no set pattern. Also the built in chromecast disconnects appear (could be wrong) tied to the albums playing. Not sure if it is tied to one of the streaming platforms or the locally ripped library. Will look at doing additional testing tomorrow. While playing Tidal - Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks FLAC tonight, I was getting disconnected just about every other song. This was around 4:30p PT 3/12/25.
I tried remote from iPhone 16 Pro Max and M4 MacBook Pro as the source of the streams if that helps.
Stability seems overall better with the Apple TV 4k Gen 3 which is another listening area in my space.
Hi @Jaime_Wojick,
Thanks for getting us those timestamps. I checked your logs from that time and found traces that indicate a possible issue with your database. We want to test it out in house. Can you please use the below steps to send it to us?
Zip up your RoonBackups folder (right-click it and select “Compress…”):
Hi @Jaime_Wojick,
Thanks for the quick response! I’ve created a ticket with our developers to test your database. Once we know more we will be sure to let you know here.
One thing I did discover today, while testing, that might help. Previously I had airplay (AppleTV for the audio and chromecast for the visuals). Today I tried just the Chromecast as the playback and the audio/video appears stable. So far, I am a few songs into Toto IV, and there are no screensavers or drops from Chromecast.
Thanks for the additional information! After another scan of your Roon Server diagnostics, we did find some additional errors in relation to Airplay, in which we already have a ticket in with development for - we’re hoping to have some additional information once they’ve analyzed things further.
If you’re able to stick with chromecast in the meantime, it will likely prove to be more stable for you until we’re able to push a fix out.
Fantastic. Thanks for the info. I have been running strictly chromcastic today with multiple albums with no issues/disconnects so things are pretty solid and awesome
I can stick with this for now.
Appreciate the help, thanks so much!
