Allo DigiOne board

Thanks Fredrik. If you’re not a DC user by another name this information is uncannily similar

@hifi_swlon you are correct, goes by my real name here and another at Devialetchat

No problem. I’m not familiar with Allo products but is the ALU case just a metal (aluminium) box?

Do you have any photos of it, as a teaser

No pics yet sorry.

Ok, I took the plunge after a bit of deliberation.

Ordered a digiOne, BNC cable, rca adapter, case, and the basic PSU from Allo. (I forgot about the discount code but their customer service was excellent on a previous bit of help I needed, so I’m hoping I might still get it retrospectively  [confirmed refunded - thanks Allo! Great service again])

Then ordered a Pi3, and also a Neutrik NADIT BNC-MX. BNC 75ohm to AES 110 ohm convertor.

This was only meant as a ‘cheap’ temporary solution (depending on what the upcoming Devialet streamer brings, and when.) but also an experiment with spdif/AES into the Devialet instead of USB or Ethernet. I suppose it could be permanent depending how it works out.

Total with shipping approx £200 (£40 of which was the neutrik). So not cheap cheap, but cheap compared to a 5K streamer if that claim holds up!

I also have an eBay 5v Linear from china already that I may try too.

Primarily I just want it to resolve the current issue of not being able to sync my lounge hifi and kitchen speaker, which worked perfectly when I had two RAAT devices previously.

Will report back. Doubt I’ll have all the components or time before the weekend at the earliest.

Of course, I’m expecting it to sound pretty much the same as USB and Ethernet as I’m not the greatest at telling these apart. What I do know is my system is never quite as good as I think the kit should be, so there’s always hope a change like this makes a difference.

Thanks to @Fredrik_Andersson for his help/advice on the spdif/AES.

Case arrived today, but no HAT yet, doh! Must have patience :slightly_smiling_face:

My case + hat arrived today (Holland). Strange? I wil report back over the Digione. For now the first impressions are good.

Hi Darrel

CS told me that your DigiOne is on the way, it left on the 24.

Many thanks Johan. Not complaining just looking forward to it arriving.

Hat arrived. Assembeld and installed. So far so far good. No critical listening yet. Report back soon.

Looking forward to your impressions of the DigiOne

My impressions will be delayed a bit…

After a week (I did use the cheaper service, but from France to UK…) the package finally arrived. One minor detail, no digiOne board!

Am sure it was just a simple mistake so hopefully it gets resolved soon, meanwhile keen to hear anyone else’s feedback so far…

[ Well, literally 15 mins later and after a couple of helpful emails I received a UPS express shipping notification for the digiOne. Can’t fault that service - I always think you know a company has good service when it comes to dealing with any issues. Five Stars to Allo here. ]

Just curious, what was in the package instead?
I should also receive the DigiOne any day now. It already arrived in Germany and I am looking forward to build it in my case. I also chose the cheaper delivery option. Let’s see…

Shipping problem. Our fault.

We are reshipping by UPS

Sorry about that.

Sadly no extra goodies (haha a USB bridge and sparky by mistake I could have played with) - but the rest of the order - case, BNC, adapter, PSU.

Anyway, all sorted now hopefully and many thanks to Johan and the team at @allo.com for super-speedy fix.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions @crieke. What PSU will you use, and what will it be driving?

Power supply is by a 6V generic supply, which will feed an ATX regulated linear power control module (if I translated correctly from French).
It will be connected to a Rotel Pre-Amp, that is connected to a Rotel Amp with B&W CM5 speakers.

I will solder the wires for the power management to some unused GPIO pins on the back of the pi, as the Digione has no GPIO pins looped through.

Digione only accepts up to 5.5V

Yes, the pi receives 5V. The internal power supply board accepts 6-12V and will give a 5V output to the pi and the touchscreen. Sorry for the confusion.

After reading your review, I’ve ordered the DigiOne for my Rpi 2. I’m able to test it running RoonBridge vs a CAPS like PC (SOTM USB card + ISO Regen + Uptone LPS1 + 12V LPS for the MB + Fedora/Planet CCRMA/RoonBridge).
The DigiOne sounds really very very good, quite as good as the CAPS. For this amount of money, it’s quite unbeliveable…Great product.

Thanks Allo

P.S: I’ve been using the HifiBerry Digi+ with the Rpi 2 for a while. But the DigiOne is really in an other league.
