Allo USBridge board

@Gabriel_JULIA I think Benchmark DAC3 detected on USB 1.1 mode, on roon shows the dac and plays song , but no audio. please check lsusb -t results on SSH , which speed the DAC detected. If it is detected on 12MBps need to edit /DietPi/uEnv.txt aotg.aotg1_speed=1 changing the mode to USB 1.1

Hi Phil

I sent your message to our tech team, they will reply soon

Hi everyone, first post

I have a Dragonfly Red, and have just received the Allo USBridge. I downloaded the image from Dietpi.com but the version I get downloaded is v157 instead of v159, not sure what I am doing wrong, is it possible to download v159 from any other point in Dietpi.com?

Thx!

rig: dragonfly red, emotiva xsp-1, emotiva xpa5-gen3, cambridge audio CXU, Dali Opticon 6

Hi Johan @allo.com

I have a Resonessence Labs Concero HD, that with Dietpi 159 (also previous versions) only can play up to 192/24 and DSD64. If I go higher, there is high tone added to the music. It plays without issues on a Mac Mini (newest macOS) without need for drivers.

Could you please - if possible - help with a solution?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Mark

@Audioholic I can’t help you with your issue but I am interested in learning more about your setup. What kind of power supply are you using? How are you powering the Concero?

Hi @CostasD

The DAC is powered through USB from the USBridge thats powered with the standard power supply. I also have a SBooster linear PSU that I sometime uses for the USBridge.

The chain is as follows ROCK --> LAN --> USBridge --> AQ Coffee USB cable --> Concero HD DAC --> AQ Sydney RCA --> Icon Audio HP8 MK2 Headphone Amp --> Oppo PM1 Headphone

Hi @Phil_Knowles,

Please let us know what the solution was as I am having similar issues with my other DAC(S.M.S.L M8).

Haha…ok got my SMSL M8 to work…linux decided to β€œmute” it in the mixer. So if your system detects the DAC fine(aplay -l shows your device), and you’re not getting any sound open the mixer with alsamixer, make sure you select your dac with f6, and then make sure all the outputs are un-muted(it must NOT display MM). You can toggle mute with the m key.

Thx so much @rahulkc_s . I’ll come back with impressions

Hi @Wouter_du_Toit and @allo.com,

I am having the same issue with the Dragonfly Red, when playing 96/24 and higher a quite noticeable noise comes from one channel, disappearing after 30-40 seconds +/-. It appears every time a song starts and seems to last longer with higher frequencies files.

I have disabled all in the Web GUI (besides the gmrender) and also played with the params in the MPD Console with no result.

Any ideas? I am happy to test whatever

Thx

Hello, thank you for your message. The issue was not this : the Alsa mixer was for strange reasons muting my benchmark dac
I did unmute with m key and then all is good

Cheers

Gabriel

I did some more testing to solve the 24/96 noise-on-left-channel with the Dragonfly Red, but unfortunately don’t have a solution yet.

When playing WAV files directly on the usbridge using aplay, I don’t have the problem, so I suspect it must be something in Roon(as I am using that).

Are you seeing it only on Roon RAAT @Enrique_Perez?

Hi,

I am not using Roon, just DLNA. I tested it with JRiver from a mac, MediaHouse-Pro with Android and with mconnect Lite from the iphone, with the 3 the same noise, always Flac files.

I’ll look for some 96/24 wav files to test.

Hi @Wouter_du_Toit and @allo.com,

With wav files the noise is there as well, the same.

For your info, I am feeding the USBridge with an IFIPower and the included Adaptor for the Sparky.

@allo.com, any clue or news regarding this issue with the Dragonfly Red? As I said before I can try whatever suggestions to try to find out what’s going on.

Thx!
Regards
Enrique

Yeah I can confirm after doing some more testing last night, the issue is present playing WAV files using aplay also, but for some reason it didn’t happen in my previous test…don’t you hate those

I am struggling with the USBridge, so I decided to order a Digione to try. Since I’ve had no luck with the Dragonfly Red or SMSL M8, I also ordered a Chord Mojo…so hopefully one of these combos will work.

I am also happy to try and experiment with options from @allo.com @rahulkc_s

You will not be disappointed. The Digione is sounding so amazing right now. It is the best source I have ever had in my system. I am using Ropieee which is so easy to use. Install it and forget it.

I just set up the dual power supplies for my USBridge exactly as you have described. It may be my imagination, but the MQA tracks I have played so far sound even better that they did before (Meridian ExplorerΒ²), instruments and voices sound more β€œreal”, and there is a nice stereo spaciousness.

Having an issue with Roon (DSP enabled), USBBridge and an ifi micro BL. Today I installed the Allo USB Wifi dongle and if I enable any DSP via Roon the ifi attached to the USBBridge will start to play and within seconds lose audio and still visible in roon, I can repeat that issue over and over. Plays fine if I disable DSP in roon and never had the issue over ethernet.

Dietpi V159
ifi Micro BL DAC
Allo USB WIFI dongle
Plugged into USB 3.0

I assume this has to do something with the USB wifi dongle?

Thanks

@Govnah

please update kernel through SSH/terminal

root@DietPi:~#wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sparky-sbc/sparky-test/master/dragon_fly_check/uImage -O /boot/uImage
root@DietPi:~#sync
root@DietPi:~#reboot

and change CPU Governer to performance on Dietpi web GU system settings , reboot and check.

WIFI + USBridgeworks better on CPU Governor on performance mode.

Did not address the issue, same issues after performing the kernel update and CPU change to performance. Any other suggestions before I send this back?

Also:

Even at β€œOnDemand” it is running hot, properly ventilated and ambient temp ~65F. Do I have a bad USBBridge?
