Looking to replace a dCS Network Bridge + McIntosh MCD500 (which I use as DAC)
Amplifier is a McIntosh MA7000.
Came across Auralic, but really struggle finding the difference between the Altair g2.2 and the Vega g2.2. On their site they describe the Altair as an all in one device and the Vega as a streaming DAC. Purely based on name I’d say I need a streaming DAC.
However, the Altair is about 6000€ and the Vega gets close to 8000€.
Only difference I can detect is the inputs … and the price.
What am I missing? What justifies the difference in price?
Sorry … forgot about a possible plan B … keep de dCS and just get a DAC.
Probably the best way to get sound improvement. But most new DAC’s include streaming capabilities … and I do like the option of getting something that could also act as pre-amp in the future if I’d choose to get rid of the MA7000
I did test listened Vega g2.2 last summer and wasn’t very impressed, I’d had Bryston BDA-3 at the time to compare. Yes there’re some differences between Vega’d DAC and Bryston, but those were too little considering that price difference is twice as much and Vega’s own streamer wasn’t very good - imo.
