Description of Issue

I have a Mac Mini (late 2012) connected via USB to a Cambridge Audio DACMagic 100. The DAC is capable of 192khz/24b resolution. However, the signal path display on the Roon app shows that higher resolution tracks are being downsampled to 96khz. If I look at the “advanced” section of the device setup it shows choices for Max Sample Rate of 48khz and 96khz only. Why am I not able to get the full 192khz?

Have you used Audio MIDI Setup (found in Utilities directory) to set the ouput of the USB to 192/24?

I hadn’t. But it turns out it only goes to 96 also. Is this a Mac hardware limitation, perhaps?

Solved! While floundering around the internet from the mac specs side I found that the DACMagic 100 needed to be manually switched from USB 1.1 to 2.0. That did it.
So maybe all my stuff is just too old. Good thing I have a birthday coming up…

Happy you found a solution. If you’re looking for an inexpensive DAC that nearly tops the list on Audio Science Review check this one out:
