Description Of Issue

I have tried several times editing the metadata of the Keith Jarrett - Sun Bear Concerts, which is a 6-CD album. All the files are tagged with CD# and Track#

But no matter how I place the files in

  1. [Sun Bear Concerts] - [CD 1]
    - [CD 2]
    - [CD 3]
    ………

  2. Or place them all in one folder, with file names changed to 1-1, 1-2, 2-1,…

Neither worked. Roon only listed the 3 tracks of CD6.

I also tried to unhide albums in the edit… section, didn’t work

Can anyone help me? Thanks

Hi @Yasmina_Lee,

First, I’d like to point out some documentation we have that may be helpful here. In our KB we have an article about Skipped Files and an article about why some files might be missing from Roon .

If you go to Settings > Library > Skipped Files do you see any of your missing files there?

I’d like to recommend looking at a couple of specific examples of tracks that did not get imported into Roon. Are they supported files? Are they showing up in Skipped Files? If it looks like they should be importing, let me know! Screenshots of these files in their storage location would be helpful for discovering what may be happening.

Hello Dylan,

These are Apple Lossless files .m4a. They are correctly shown in iTunes Library and Yate (a file tagging app).

in Finder

In Yate
In iTunes

As you can see, they are all tagged with CD number.

It’s a bit tricky with roon. When I add the first 2 CDs to the library, they are correctly shown in Roon. But when I add the 3rd CD, the first 2 CD disappear.

Do you need me to upload the whole cd for you?

Hi @Yasmina_Lee,

With the 3rd CD added, can you try using the filter by path option on the Tracks Browser? Do they show up when you do this?

Looking at the folder naming convention you have adopted in that screenshot of the Finder, it would appear that you have adopted a folder naming convention that Roon Labs tell you will not work. So it’s hardly a surprise to me that it is not working.

Thanks Geoff,

The original folder is like

/Sunbear
/CD1
1. kyoto…
2. kyoto…
/CD2
1. Osaka
2. Osaka…

It didn’t work so I changed to the naming convention now.

I can see them in Track Browser, filter by path

But not in album browser

mmm…

Hello @Yasmina_Lee, and thanks for your report! Could you please upload a copy of the album here so we can try this on our side? Thanks! Please let me know when you’ve had a chance to upload a copy.

Sorry, please send me a new link

Hi Nuwrly, could you please send me a new link? thanks

Sorry for that, @Yasmina_Lee. Nuwriy is out of the office today, but I’ve generated a new link to get you to our uploader. Please upload the file at the link below and we’ll take a look:

Uploaded, please have a look

@dylan @nuwriy Did you get the files? I wonder how can I solve my problem, thanks

Hi @Yasmina_Lee,

Sorry for the delayed response! Yes, we received the album and we’ve passed it along to the team to look into. It’s still in their queue but we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP when we’ve gotten feedback!

@dylan @nuwriy How’s it going? Is there anything I can do?

I’ve found the best practice with ripping albums with multiple cds is ti rip the last one first

Why is this? I’ve found that too many times it labels it as disc 1 rather than (let’s say) disc 5. Once ripped, change it to the desired disc number and more often than not, details filter in.

Keep doing this (checking and changing) until you get to 1.

Sorry @Yasmina_Lee, it looks like this is still in the queue for the technical team. We’ve upped the priority on the ticket and requested an update, we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

I am having the same issue. I was just trying to add a 4 CD Box set…when I added the first 2, they showed up as a set of (2) in the latest additions. When I add the third, the first 2 disappear, and only the 3rd shows up. I can’t seem to find the first two to merge them into a multi-CD set. I tried the track path filter, and Roon has indeed added them…but I can’t get them to show up in the album view, so that I can merge them.

What do you mean by “the track path filter”? Do you mean the Track Browser? If so, what does the Album field in the track listing say for these tracks?

Also, if you use the Album Browser and sort by date added, do you not see the three albums listed side-by-side? It’s also possible that Roon has merged the two albums itself, thinking that they belong to a different release.

Can you check in an external tag editor , you need the disc # set properly and the Album name all set to the same name.

Also a master folder “Album name” with 4 sub folders Cd1, Cd2 etc

Then it should import and merge properly

Maybe post a shot of your file structure
