Your scientific test is nonsensical, and attests a misunderstanding of how digital audio is converted to acoustical sound.

No, it isn’t and it doesn’t. I understand how digital is converted to analogue.

The audiophile networking aficionados claim that noise from the ethernet can pollute the output of the DAC. Remember this post?

It’s a digital DATA, but it is streamed through the LAN by an analog electric current.
The DATA is channeled through JR45 cables that react to RFI like antennas.
And all the devices of the LAN who are not powered by a LPS spread high frequencies of electrical noise all over the LAN (modem, router, computers, switches…).

All these interferences reach the endpoint with the DATA, and degrade the SQ.
An optical isolation right before the endpoint eliminates them all. The analog electrical current of the DATA is converted to light, while the interferences and noise are filtered because they don’t contain DATA.

I use $40 conerters from Amazon, and they clearly improve the sound.
It’s important to power the second converter, the one before the endpoint, with a LPS to avoid it from spreading electrical noise in the clean zone that was created.

It has nothing to do with the DATA.
Power your DAC with a poor power supply instead of a LPS, and it won’t sound as good.
Why? Because the noise-floor is higher.

The same thing goes for the streamer that is connected to the DAC… Its electrical noise is channeled to the DAC with the DATA. And it’s the same for all the LAN.

The beauty of these cheap optical converters is that they eliminate completely all the electrical noise of the LAN. With them, the quality of the Ethernet cables in the LAN does not matter. And the noise level of the server, and the other devices does not matter as well.

These statements would appear to be contradictory. Are you suggesting that the noise interferes with the audio DATA in some other manner?

I didn’t stream silence to the DAC and my LAN isn’t noisy. I streamed -120dBFS pink noise and a -120dBFS 1 kHz square wave to the DAC. Both were clearly audible at the speakers when amplified enough, the 1 kHz tone was only to confirm my suspicions that I could actully hear a -120dBFS signal.
