It would be helpful if you could provide more information around the issue device, specifically the make a model, as well see more than one Android-related device tied to your account.
As a first step, I’d remove Roon and perform a fresh install on the issue device. If your issue persists after this, share the specific date, time, and the name of the track playing at the time of the disconnect.
From there, our team should be able to enable diagnostics on your Roon Server for further information. We’ll be on standby for your reply, thanks!
Hello Benjamin,
I have a Motorola G54 Mobile phone and a Lenovo Tab M10.
It is not the problem that they disconnect while playing. But sometime, e.g. when I come home and want to hear music, the app doesn’t find roon for a long time. But all my apple device work perfectly, so the roon server is on and the network is ok.
I already tried to reinstall everything but the problem remains. Sometime they connect immediately, sometime they don’t.
The above description sounds like it could potentially be a network-related issue, and a tad bit difficult to pin down.
With that, we’re not seeing any errors from your Roon Server machine around the timestamp you’ve shared in your screenshot. Would you be able to share another screenshot the next time this happens?
Ideally, having a set of Roon logs from the issue device would be helpful as well. It’s a bit of a process to gather them from android devices, but I’ll share the steps on how to do this below:
Connect your PC to Android phone and install ADB (instructions are here (all platforms)). Then:
Hello Benjamin,
Thanks for your answer.
Yesterday, again I had problems to connect and made screenshots:
the first one at 17:49 shows “warte auf deinen Roon server” (waiting)
then some seconds later “suche nach deinem Roon server” (searching)
then I took an apple device: no problem to connect
at 17:53 on Android still searching - I klicked on “Configure Roon OS devices”
at 17:55 the Roon OS device was found
then I connected to Nucleus
Since the iPhone connects and the Android phone doesn’t on the same network, let’s explore some possible differences in the network interface portion of the Android phone.
Please try the following on the Android:
Open Settings
Select Network & Internet
Select Wi-Fi
Select your home network
Select Advanced
Select Privacy
Select “Use Device MAC”
Next, please navigate to Settings > System > Advanced > Developer Options > Networking > Wi-Fi-Enhanced MAC Randomization. Make sure it’s turned off.
Then power the phone off and back on. Open Roon and try to connect.
Next, please navigate to Settings > System > Advanced > Developer Options
…on my phone there is no such option. But I made it into the developer mode by clicking 10x on the build number!
Networking > Wi-Fi-Enhanced MAC Randomization.
… I found that (hurrah) but there is no option to turn off…
So after a few minutes, you’re able to connect and don’t have any issues? I’m not certain we’ll be able to improve the connection speed on our end, but if you’d like, feel free to share a set of Android logs from the steps I’ve listed out above - we didnt’ see anything uploaded on our end.
Let me know if thats at all possible!
Another short test could be to try out our .APK download of Roon, it likely wouldn’t affect the connection timing, but is a quick a useful test none the less, here’s the download link:
We want to narrow down the precise difference in behavior in the instances when the phone connects and those times when it doesn’t connect.
When the Android phone fails to find the Nucleus:
Are you switching from cellular data to WiFi for the first time in several hours? Or are you switching from a separate WiFi network?
Does restarting the phone on your home WiFi always allow it to connect to the Nucleus? Or does restarting not always help? We’d like to clarify this point as much as possible.
What about the tablet? Does restarting allow that to connect?
Lastly:
Turn the phone and the tablet off side by side. Then turn both back on. Do both reconnect to RoonServer?
Let’s also illuminate your network topology. Do you have any other network or WiFi hardware in this setup, like mesh nodes or switches? Is the Nucleus hardwired directly to your router?
Hello,
When I came home at in afternoon I tried to connect with my android - this took a while, I changed to english and back to german and after some minutes it connected. Some minutes ago from now I read your message and turned off wifi, turned it on again, and again it took a while to connect.
Then I closed the roon app and tried to connect again…waiting some minutes until it worked,
then i completely switched off my mobile, turned it on again and am still waiting to connect, … The appkle device always finds roon server at once.
I hope this helps .
Thank you for your help,
Kind regards
Borus
Hello.
Just now it took again a long time to connect. I searched for the nucleus, and as it was found there was still no connection. Then I switched to English and restarted. Then I was connected. I switched to German and again no connection.
Regards Boris
Unfortunately, we don’t have any updates to share at this time. Your case is still in the queue for QA review, we’ll follow up once they’ve had a chance to take a closer look.
