Android smartphone delays in connecting to Roon Nucleus One (ref#FQLO6L)

What’s happening?

· I'm noticing slowness when using the Roon App or Roon ARC

Describe the issue

My android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S24+) takes a long time - many minutes, up to an hour - to connect to my new Roon Nucleus One. The Roon remote app on the phone gets stuck at the "Waiting for Roon Server" page. There is little or no delay connecting when I use the Roon app on my Apple iPad or Dell PC. All devices use the same local area network operating from a superfast fibre broadband supplied by a BT Smart Hub 2 via a Netgear switch to which the ethernet cables are connected. How can I make my smartphone connect to the Nucleus One faster?

Hi @Michael_Phipps,
Welcome to the Roon Community! Thanks for writing in to ask us about this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

I opened the Roon app on my Samsung Galaxy S24+ smartphone at 22:25 UK GMT today, 4 December 2024. At the same time I opened the Roon app on my Apple iPad. The iPad connected with the Roon Nucleus One at 22:27, but by 22:30 the Samsung smartphone had still not connected to the Roon Nucleus One. The smartphone was stuck on the page "Waiting for the Roon core server ", and no other page on the app could be accessed. I closed the app on the iPad at 22:29, and on the smartphone soon after 22:30.

Hey @Michael_Phipps,

Unfortunately, we’re having trouble connecting to your Roon Server to review your issue further. If you could, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

After that, I’d also remove Roon on your mobile device and perform a fresh install under stable Wifi, and let me know if your issues persist. :raised_hands:

Hi Benjamin. Thank you for your response. Fortunately it seems that I have resolved the problem by chance. I discovered that when I powered down the Roon Nucleus One and switched it off at the mains electric socket, then opened the Roon app on my smartphone, then switched on and powered up the Nucleus, the app connected to the Nucleus within a few seconds and I could operate the Roon system and listen to music normally. Previously the Nucleus had been powered up before I opened the Roon app, and the app wouldn’t recognise and connect to the Nucleus. I don’t understand why this is so and why the connection should work with one sequence but not the other.
But at least I now have a straightforward process for connecting which seems to work each time. So I don’t need you to take this further. Thanks.

You should be able to leave the nucleus on and connect to it at will. Having to power it off, open the phone app and power it back on isn’t a solution, it’s a workaround.
