Describe your network setup
I use a newish Optus modem q have speeds of 170 megabites I am in Melbourne Australia Never been an issue connecting. Its the Roon core I cant reach
Thank you for contacting Roon Support, and I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’ve experienced with the recent update to your anti-virus databases.
The issue you’re experiencing is caused by Avast Antivirus falsely flagging parts of the Roon application as malicious and moving them to quarantine. This can break Roon’s functionality, and uninstalling Avast before restoring the quarantined files may leave the application in an unusable state — which seems to be the case here.
To resolve this, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Close All Roon Processes via Task Manager
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
In the Processes tab, right-click and End Task on any of the following:
Roon
RoonAppliance
RAATServer
Step 2: Uninstall Roon
Open Settings → Apps → Installed Apps.
Locate Roon, click the ... menu, and select Uninstall.
If Windows says it’s still running, confirm all processes were closed in Task Manager.
If you’re still unable to uninstall, restart your PC and try again.
Open Roon and connect to your existing Core, or set up a new one.
About the Avast False Positive
Avast may incorrectly detect Roon files (such as RoonAppliance.exe) as threats due to its heuristic scanning system. These are false positives, and Roon is completely safe to use. Every build is scanned and verified before public release.
Optional: Restore Roon Files from Avast Quarantine
If Avast is still installed:
Open Avast → Protection → Virus Chest.
Look for any Roon-related files, especially RoonAppliance.exe.
Use the Restore and add exception option.
Then go to Menu → Settings → Exceptions and add the folder: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Roon
@Roon_Moderators - would this recent issue warrant a use of the banner notification system in the forums? I say this because it would reduce support threads tremendously, and make it a lot easier for regular forum readers and helpers by lessening redundant “content” to deal with each time we visit. It’s good for users having the problems, it’s good for Roon support, it’s really just good for everyone.
I Have followed all instructions However even with a new password I cannot log into my Roon to connect up the server with the new Roon I downloaded . It keeps stating Captcha invalid ? I can log in ok for billing only can you please help
many thanks again for your help

Just installed update on Windows 11 PC and Norton 360 Virus protection thinks roonappliance.exe is infected with IDP.Generic virus. It deleted the file but I restored it and made an exception. (Hope I don’t regret that) Same thing with RAATServer.exe file and I responded the same way. Thinks the file risk is HIGH.
I scanned the PC afterwards but it’s not detecting any viruses or any other threats.
Hi @Russell_Berg1,
Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the reCAPTCHA error:
Make sure cookies aren’t blocked. Check your browser settings to ensure that cookies are enabled, especially for the site you’re trying to access.
Check for a firewall issue or content blocker. Browser extensions, antivirus software, or network-level firewalls can interfere with reCAPTCHA. Try making sure Roon is allowed through any firewalls or switching browsers to test.
Change your DNS. We’ve seen users have better success by switching from their ISP’s default DNS to one of these alternatives:
