Joe,

To get the best help, please would you supply details of your OS, Roon version, any recent updates etc.

Better still, fill in the Template intended for support requests hereā€¦ .

I see no template. When I click the ā€˜hereā€™ link it takes me to the topic page.

Iā€™m using a Wolf Audio server, just did 2 updates today, seemingly one after the other.

Tried connecting with my Android phone (normal use) as well as with PC.

Both keep trying to redirect me. Iā€™m signed in, I see a device, canā€™t make it out due to phone screen but cannot access the device to select music.

This all worked last week, then there was the update.

Hi @joe1,

In order to have all the history together Iā€™ve merged your posts into your support request topic.

Could you confirm how the Wolf Audio server is connected to the Windows machine thatā€™s running Roon Server.

Was this a Roon update, Windows update, Wolf Audio update or something else?

If Roon, I recommend downloading a new copy from Roonā€™s website and re-installing on the Window PC.

Could you expand on this, from where to where.
Can you take and post some screenshots.

The Wolf is a Windows machine running Roon
Worked until the updates

Still unable to use Roon

As @Carl asked - some screenshots from you would help to cast more light on your issue and help diagnosis.

Have you tried touching the ā€œUnauthorizeā€ button?

keeps saying failed to initialize device

Iā€™ve disconnected from all devices. When I try to connect to A3S-Base it connects to the DAC, failed to initialize the Audio device

I take it that the ā€œA3S-Baseā€ is the Wolf Audio Alpha 3 server? Can you post a screenshot of the ā€œfailed to initialize the Audio deviceā€ message? The context of the message is not clear to me. Thanks.

Use Roon running on a PC for the screenshots if you can - smartphone screenshots are limited in what they can display.

Correct. A3S-Base is Wolf Audio Alpha 3 server. It is not connected to an email account so cannot screenshot from there.

When I hit ā€˜playā€™ it shows ā€˜Failed to Initialize the Audio deviceā€™

It doesnā€™t have to be connected to an email account for screenshots. You said that you had a PC earlier, use Roon on that and then take a screenshot using the PC and post it on the forum.

From what I can see in the photo, you appear to have got Roon up and running on the Wolf server, and the ā€œFailed to initialize the Audio deviceā€ is indicative of an issue between Roon and the DAC. Have you tried rebooting the DAC?

Hi

Given the error message, might you post a screen pic of the Settings Audio page that includes the T+A DAC 8 DSD. Also, since you are running on Windows, that message can occur if another program on the Windows server already has control of the output device. Please try closing all other programs and then run Roon.

Also, I am assuming you are using the actual T+Aā€™s ASIO driver and not something like ASIO4ALL.

Hello @joe1 ,

Thanks for reaching out with your report here.

Please note that your Wolf server is a standalone server that is not officially supported or tested by our team, we do not have any insight into any OS customizations or driver changes that Wolf has made to their Server, so we would be unable to provide precise assistance for this type of Roon Server.

Some avenues to explore this issue further if it was occurring on regular Windows system would be as follows:

  • Checking if other zones also reproduce the issue or if it is limited to the T+A device
  • Trying a different USB port and USB cable for the connection of the T+A
  • Checking if the WASAPI version of the driver works as expected
  • Temporarily hosting the Roon Core on another PC, to eliminate the Wolf Server as a factor

Hope this helps!
