Sonos has 50-60 times more users than Roon has. I’m sure that factored into the decision. Plus, integration with Sonos is much simpler than with Roon.
Not to mention that Apple Music was much smaller when partnering up with Sonos.
I just saw a Techradar article from last June that indicated there is a good chance that Apple would end up buying Sonos. Have you, or anyone else, any knowledge about that? I could see that actually helping Apple, and probably consumers.
I was not aware of that, but that makes sense to me since (1) they bought Beats (2) the key point of AirPlay2 is multi-room - so this clearly is important to them (3) Sonos have wireless audio patents (search for Sonos Google lawsuit) (4) this can fast track the expansion of HomePods product line.
I have been using a trial for Apple Music and I have to say it is a lot better than when it first came out .
Now for lossless !
Not to mention the typical Sonos user fits nicely into Apple‘s loot scheme. Not so sure if any major company wants to have audiophiles.
Granted, I haven’t looked very hard but haven’t hit a roadblock yet looking for music. I don’t have to try very hard to find missing music in Qobuz.
I still am hoping Apple comes up with a Spotify Connect option . I find Airplay unreliable from long distances . Why not hand off the music playing to Apple servers ??
Will A&K allow apple music on SP2000?
You might need to ask A&K this question.
Apple Music app has been available on Android for years now.
See the note about it below though.
The app crashes when I try to run it…
Did you ask A&K to investigate or about their plans to support it?
This is precisely why I wont buy a DAP anymore that can’t handle the full Google App Store.
This is precisely why I’m trying to avoid an android based DAP
I think the newer 11 model, Android-based Fiio DAPs support the full Google Play store.
In any case, I can’t directly speak to the level of Apple Music support for loseless and/or “spatial audio.” We will have to see once Apple flips the switch.
This was reported last month. More to come tomorrow/later this month.
Well, b’ah! Thanks for that update, dabass. That’s too bad. Was hoping to try out some dolby atmos audio by shooting it to my new soundbar.
On a positive note, it looks like anyone with an Android-based DAP with full access to the GPS will be able to stream losslessly, which is good news.
Apple Lossless is rolling out for users on iOS 14.6
No reports yet for macOS
Hasn’t shown up for me yet but since it’s rolling out, no need for everyone to ask everyone why it hasn’t shown up for you yet lol.
Might take a day or two or three, maybe depending where you are. Patience is required
And remember, Apple Lossless (up to 48kHz only) is launching (today seemingly) with approx 20 milli tracks, not the full Apple Music catalogue.
Hi-res (over 48kHz) is coming later in the year and entire catalogue will be at minimum CD quality, also later in the year.
One of many reports at the moment:
Ok it’s live for me on macOS. Yay lol
Some hi-res stuff already
24/96k ALAC
on macOS sample rate does not switch automatically… I kind of expected this and hope future Apple Music app update improves this. Maybe next macOS update due end of the year.
No issue on iOS - auto sample rate switching has been working for years already on iOS. Easy to verify with Roon, Tidal and Qobuz apps on iOS.
