I was just thinking this, Apple are basically responsible for compression being the standard
We are all waiting for Apple Connect.
Is it coming? Iāve not seen any announcementsā¦
Lol ok time to end it Zane. They are repeating the same script over and over.
Get back to your mixes guys lol.
Airplay sounds good for me capped at CD quality. For me, I highly doubt going over CD will make any audible impact.
Iām with you on this, I just know a lot of people want the hand off feature of Spotify connect so itās not tied to your iPhone.
There is a high chance they will update Airplay 2.
Why not use Apple servers ? Get the streaming off my phone unless Iām mobile .
By the way Apple CarPlay sounds damn good with lossless Apple streams. I was playing Apple 256 yesterday and the difference can easily be heard even in a somewhat noisy car environment.
Multiroomā¦
Something Airplay does better than Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect.
True story and we all need to admit that Apple are bloody good at their stuff.
Oh, so heās already dropped a video. Letās see
Funnily sponsored by no other thanā¦ Roon.
Totally agree, handling airplay devices is great for me.
I have HyperX CloudII headphones and an iPhone 12. This doesnāt really benefit me like it should, right?
Do I need to get new headphones and a DAC? If so, where would I go to figure out budget options? Maybe ~$200. Or can I go cheaper to destroy the audio quality of what Iām used to?
Apple is not an option because I canāt play it on my main hi fi system, except via Airplay.
All Apple have really done is copy Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon (but with an inferior product), dressed it up, and are marketing it as being somehow ground breaking.
Theyāve done the same with Atmos, which is simply surround sound for headphones that existed for years.
Itās pretty typical of Appleā¦ copy, but not as good, and market the hell out of it.
I am sure there will be millions who buy in though, wandering around listening to Atmos on those awful Beats headphones.
(only kidding Apple fans - sort of )
Have you even tested AirPlay? Iām just starting to compare to roon/Qobuz. So far early results are positive. And yes, itās canāt do hires but Iām still not really convinced that make much difference. But more testing is needed.
I have tested Airplay via Roon, yes. I can hear a difference with hi-res music.
A decent DAC/Amp and wired pair of headphones will benefit you. If your headphones are wired, then all you need is a DAC/Amp of which there are plenty good ones available at very reasonable pricing.
Just decide whether you want a portable or desktop one
Look at Ifi for example. The xDSD and xCAN are quite good and portable.
Well I think even with cd quality with roon/Qobuz is sounding better than Apple Music thru AirPlay. Feels like more air and detail with roon. Iām using Naim Uniti Aton HE with Focal Utopia. Iāll do some more testing before giving up on Apple.
My plan was to see if Spotify was worthwhile but Apple beat them to the punch. Iād think Spotify Connect might be better streaming than using AirPlay though. In end, going to guess roon/Qobuz will win out. Just hoping Qobuz expands their library to complete and roon comes out with a mobile solution.
I would not say Apple have an inferior product- far from it.
As far as stability, I believe it is superior to the likes of Amazon, Qobuz and Tidal in my experience and humble opinion. The amount of times these have and continue to crash on me is significant. Have not really used Spotify much so canāt comment on the amount of times the app will crash or not play along.
The reason Apple are usually late to some parties is because they just sit back, watch what other do and how they ādanceā, learn from their mistakes and when they are confident their ādance movesā are better, thatās when they join the ādanceā.
Just my two pence
