Oh come on Snoopy (as my dad calls him).
Thanks, Michael. I was able to install it and the app does successfully go all the way up to 96 kHz, which is the max capability on my MacBook Pro.
Another thing that I wish it could do was recognize and make the sample rate switch when the track is in my library. Currently, It only works when the track is being streamed by Apple.
I messaged the developer to ask whether he can add the needed functionality.
Ali
Here is my exchange with the developer of the app, Vincent.
So perhaps this has been addressed before ⌠but maybe some time has passed and things have changed?
â Is there any way to get Roon to play my Apple Music streams like it plays my Tidal streams?
And I have a second question (sorry I am a noob) ⌠I have a hifi streamer (Cambridge CXN V2) and it is happy to be fed via Roon or even by Tidal connect ⌠but what would be the most convenient way to feed it Apple Music streams? I know it does airplay but then that depends on my device (iPhone, iPad) actually sending the stream (thus draining the battery etc). Is there any way to get streamers to suck the stream from Apple directly? My Sonos sound bar can do it, is that the only vendor that has done this deal with Apple?
Thanks!
Sonos struck a deal, they seem to align with Apples outlook for some reason and they are pretty much the leader in their field. Apart from special relationships wtih car manufacturers nothinng supports Apple Music directly. You have to use airplay and currently thats knobbled to only use AAC and not lossless if the device you airplaying is Airplay 2. Funnily older non Airplay2 devices can get lossless upto 44.1/16, they knobbled it on Airplay 2 to maintain better audio syncronisation for mulitiroom.
As for getting it into Roon same things apply Apple are not interested in integrating with Roon at this time or probably ever, they really only care about selling Apple hardware for the most part and allowing 3rd party access to their systems is down to who they think are worthy. If it affects sales they wont do it.
While waiting for Apple to update Airplay to support 24/192 over WiFiâŚ
It seems like the WiiM Mini streamer currently has âcastingâ supported from Amazon Music HD app on iOS & Android and the kicker⌠it has auto sample rate switching working in beta testing.
Not even the more expensive Bluesound Nodes support this. I donât know of any streamer that currently supports this actually (using the official Amazon app).
Itâs a new firmware update for special beta testers. Will go live next month some time according to WiiM Support.
Just use the optical output with your DAC of choice and youâre sorted.

Amazon Alexa supports it.
Would the new (next month) 13 inch Apple Macbook Air M2 be a good computer to run Apple Music lossless high resolution, Roon core, and Audirvana 3.5/Studio? I keep thinking about a very mobile laptop that can run all three.
When I say mobile, I donât mean âwalk the dogâ mobile, but in the car (wife driving) and take to mother-in-lawâs house.
I believe you have to change the output resolution manually on MacOS with Apple Music. Otherwise I canât see it being anything but outstanding. I have an M1 MacBook Pro and it is very fast, screen is superb, and the battery life is insanely good compared to the intel versions. The Air is a bargain.
I think so. Could probably just set it on 24/96 and let it upsample and downsample as necessary. Would that also be the case if using an external DAC? That might be reason enough to stick with my Dell and use iPhone and iPads for Apple Music. I think I just keep looking for an âidealâ setup.
Sorry Jim, canât answer that, although as I just bought a little Helm Audio Bolt DAC/Amp (what an amazing little gadget BTW), I guess I could test it out.
@Jim_F This might be the missing part for that conundrum: LosslessSwitcher adds bit-perfect Apple Music playback to MacOS | Darko.Audio
Thanks, I would definitely try that if I decide to go this route.
Yes itâd the same with DACs, Apple Music has no exclusive mode so no rate switching it follows system output settings.
Thank you. Works.
With bugs and the developer has given up on it.
The guy who devolved the Mac Lossless Switcher has given up on the plug-in ? if he has , maybe he knows Apple is coming up with a solution .
Or its just not worth his effort.
