I just thought of another reason not to buy the Macbook Air, in addition to expense. My Audirvana 3.5 lifetime license is for a PC. So, I would need to subscribe (again) to Audirvana Studio. I don’t really want to do that. I think I’ll continue use my Dell for Roon and Audirvana 3.5 and iPhone or iPads for Apple Music. Thanks for everyone’s input.
EDIT: I see Apple has a 14 day return policy on computers. There is an Apple store about two miles from my house. So, I could give it a try and return it if I’m not satisfied. We’ll see.
This is a work in progress project and there are some issues with it right now, where the bit depth doesn’t change, and some other little things. But, it is a great initiative that Vincent is bringing to life.
So, I decided I don’t need to spend the money for a new Apple Macbook Air M2. I got this instead. Traded in my aging iPad Mini 4 for a new iPad Mini 6th Gen. It arrived this afternoon and works well as a Roon control device. I’m now testing it streaming 24/192 from Apple Music using 5G cellular data. So far, no issues.
Are you using a usb c camera connector? Is that just to get power to the iPad? I know you can directly go from usb c to a dac without the camera connector.
I’ve used my mini with a usb to coaxial converter to my Naim Atom HE. It works but didn’t like being hardwired in. I’m still holding out for some kind of wireless solution. Thinking that would be announced when classical app and lossless wireless headphones released. We’ll that’s if it’s announced at all.
Yes and no. I haven’t tried it without the camera adapter, but I want to keep it charged.
EDIT: I just tried it with a long USB C to USB C charging cable and it works with intermittent static. What is a good, shorter cable that doesn’t cost $100 to $200? I guess I should also buy a USB C to female USB A to try with my AQ Dragonfly Cobalt DAC.
Really, I not sure of a situation where I wouldn’t want to use the camera adapter for charging because I’m not going to use the iPad Mini 6 with an external DAC except in a stationary environment, not walking the dog, etc.
I guess if I order a couple cables with USB C for the iPad Mini 6, a USB C to 3.5mm headphone adapter might be handy also.
I’m really liking this little iPad Mini 6. I hope I can keep myself from buying anything else for a while. Although, I am tempted to trade my iPhone 11 Pro Max for an iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Shame they are not readily available to purchase in the UK as I would try one out. But only seems to be available in the EU or from China. Amazon list them but unavailable and never seem to have any in stock
