Apple Music High Res

Yep too difficult

Nope, too difficult to get it right without bugs (technicals)

He’s not aware of anything. It’s just too hard.

Much better solution going forward anyway is hi-res Airplay… Stay tuned for the next Airpods Pro event… Around September/October-ish

I just thought of another reason not to buy the Macbook Air, in addition to expense. My Audirvana 3.5 lifetime license is for a PC. So, I would need to subscribe (again) to Audirvana Studio. I don’t really want to do that. I think I’ll continue use my Dell for Roon and Audirvana 3.5 and iPhone or iPads for Apple Music. Thanks for everyone’s input.

EDIT: I see Apple has a 14 day return policy on computers. There is an Apple store about two miles from my house. So, I could give it a try and return it if I’m not satisfied. We’ll see.

This is a work in progress project and there are some issues with it right now, where the bit depth doesn’t change, and some other little things. But, it is a great initiative that Vincent is bringing to life.

I think this is a good plan!

So, I decided I don’t need to spend the money for a new Apple Macbook Air M2. I got this instead. Traded in my aging iPad Mini 4 for a new iPad Mini 6th Gen. It arrived this afternoon and works well as a Roon control device. I’m now testing it streaming 24/192 from Apple Music using 5G cellular data. So far, no issues.

My new iPad Mini 6 in it’s case with Zagg screen protector. Nice upgrade from iPad Mini 4. Got it from Verizon for $400.

Are you using a usb c camera connector? Is that just to get power to the iPad? I know you can directly go from usb c to a dac without the camera connector.

I’ve used my mini with a usb to coaxial converter to my Naim Atom HE. It works but didn’t like being hardwired in. I’m still holding out for some kind of wireless solution. Thinking that would be announced when classical app and lossless wireless headphones released. We’ll that’s if it’s announced at all.

Yes and no. I haven’t tried it without the camera adapter, but I want to keep it charged.

EDIT: I just tried it with a long USB C to USB C charging cable and it works with intermittent static. What is a good, shorter cable that doesn’t cost $100 to $200? I guess I should also buy a USB C to female USB A to try with my AQ Dragonfly Cobalt DAC.

Really, I not sure of a situation where I wouldn’t want to use the camera adapter for charging because I’m not going to use the iPad Mini 6 with an external DAC except in a stationary environment, not walking the dog, etc.

I guess if I order a couple cables with USB C for the iPad Mini 6, a USB C to 3.5mm headphone adapter might be handy also.

I’m really liking this little iPad Mini 6. I hope I can keep myself from buying anything else for a while. Although, I am tempted to trade my iPhone 11 Pro Max for an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Be patient. Wait until September

For the 14 or better deals on 13? They’re giving $800 off right now.

800? Wow - in that case …

I got a few Amazon branded OTG USB to micro USB for my IPad/Mojo combo. No adapter needed and they work perfectly.

Amazon Basics USB Type-C to… Amazon Basics USB-C to Micro USB 2.0 Cable for Smartphone- 15.2 cm, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

And

Amazon Basics Double Braided… Amazon Basics Double Braided Nylon USB Type-C to Micro-B 2.0 Male Cable | 0.3 m, Gold : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

OK, thanks. I’ll order some Amazon Basics when we get home from our upcoming trip.

While we waiting for hi-res Airplay…

Here I am casting from Amazon Music HD to WiiM Mini streamer which has optical output to my RME ADI-2.

Sample rates switch correctly. No more ‘everything is resampled with Amazon Music HD’.

Look closely at the DAC’s incoming sample rate and make note of no cable attached to phone.

And this is the proper ‘Spotify Connect’ style casting… I power off my iPhone music keeps playing. I can pickup my iPad to resume control.

Your move Apple ! :grinning:

I have a 1 year old pro 12.9 so much the same.

I use a USB C to USB A female to run my Dragonfly Red with no issues . I have even run a cable from it to the main DAC USB input , sounds great.

The 3.5 mm adapters are actually very small DAC’s , probably not that good given what they cost . I have one it works fine

The WiiM streamer is a great little device and connects to 5ghz band making it fast.

I’m happily on 2.4GHz WiFi over here without an issue casting 24/192k.

But it does have that option of 5GHz for people with interference/dropout issues.

Proper Airplay2 certified also. Who knows, if hi-res Airplay comes, the WiiM Mini may get it.

Shame they are not readily available to purchase in the UK as I would try one out. But only seems to be available in the EU or from China. Amazon list them but unavailable and never seem to have any in stock

Just get it from Amazon US. It’s in stock.

I don’t know of any other streamer that can do this bit perfect casting from Amazon Music HD app. Not even the way more expensive Bluesound Nodes.

I don’t live in the US
