First of all, I ask you to excuse my approximate English
I invited myself here through an email from Roon services asking me why I unsubscribe.
Although Roon is both a high-quality and innovative software, I can’t bring myself to forget Apple Music.
I am not interested in technical problems, in my opinion there can only be a problem of money or will (Firms like Fiio or Sonolos have nevertheless freed themselves from these contingences)
That people can think of ignoring Apple’s integration into their product can only do so by thinking they are satisfied with an audiophile clientele ready to ignore a major of streaming music providers…
It may indeed be economically viable but I think that others will not have the same states of mind and will make Roon forget simply because they are simpler and less restrictive to set up
I find it a pity because I was satisfied with Roon, despite its cost and I would have adopted it if I had been able to integrate it into my current system
Belle journée en musique !
If you read through this topic thread, you will see that there is no lack of will on the part of Roon Labs, but rather a refusal from Apple to work with them to deliver Apple Music on non-Apple hardware…
I will read the 600 lines of this subject to better understand, you are right. Despite everything I hope for a Roon/Apple agreement, why?
Apple has started broadcasting in high resolution, so it seeks to interest a more audiophile audience than before and does not offer at the moment many solutions to take advantage of it, whether by its editorial line or by its interface with the hardware, it will (must) evolve in one way or another, says more familiarly, Apple sneezes and everyone coughs (Just see how the subscription prices aligned almost instantly with those of Apple when they opened the high speed)
Roon offers this possibility, his expertise and reputation work in his favor, so why not?
Bien cordialement
It really has been explained by Roon. You can look up the relevant posts and make up your own mind, they probably are repeated many times further up in this thread, or you can believe those who have read them. There are not many other options.
If I remember correctly. Apple itself was OK with Roon integration. But only if Roon became an Apple only supporting piece of software. That is something the Roon team wouldn’t do.
Also the Apple API having a lot of limitations when it comes to accessing data didn’t work in Apple’s favor. So no Apple Music integration with Roon.
Apple’s support for hi-res is nice. But the way they have implemented it just plain sucks. You won’t get hi-res through most connection options. Not on my iPhone or iPad without using an external DAC. The same goes with my MacBook Pro in the living room.
I’m currently on a 3 month “welcome back”. subscription with Apple Music for 11 Euro. Most likely I will drop it again as I am more then happy with both Qobuz and Tidal. The only thing Apple Music has going for it is its tight integration with my Apple hardware. Sound quality wise it’s less nice in my opinion.
I’ll be sticking to Roon with my local collection of music, Qobuz and Tidal.
In China, many music enthusiasts are troubled by internet connectivity issues, which prevent them from fully enjoying Tidal. On the other hand, Apple Music has launched a dedicated classical music app, which allows for smooth and uninterrupted listening at any time. We hope that our Roon service can integrate with Apple Music, allowing us to no longer worry about network issues.
How would this stop network issues, it will be reliant on same internet as Tidal or Qobuz you would not be able to download them for offline use in a 3rd party application. If your using the app and airplay to Hifi equipment it’s only AAC quality so will be less bandwidth than Tidal or Qobuz which are lossless via Roon. Perhaps they also have a local CDN?
Maybe not. I’m sure Apple has servers and a CDN in the PRC, inside the Great Firewall, and Tidal/Qobuz don’t (as their services are not available in the PRC).
Where I work suffers from this. The PRC seems to require a business presence before they let you run a server inside the Great Firewall, at least this is what I am being told. So people in the PRC have a terrible time downloading our installer on some days with 0.1 kbps speed, depending on the censors’ mood, because our Asia CDN is on the outside.
Doesn’t change that Apple doesn’t want to play ball with Roon, of course.
I don’t see how they are related: I think of Roon as a platform that is agnostic with respect to the hardware it sits on and with respect to the music services it provides.
Apple is not agnostic w/r/t hardware, and I don’t believe they will take over the audio industry.
I saw that you have updated Roon app to support Airplay 2, many thanks!!
I just wonder if soon or later, Roon will have Apple’s authorization to run Apple Music (now that they have upgraded their music sources) on Roon complementary to Tidal and Qobuz?
Hello thanks for your quick reply!
I hoped Apple would have changed their policy as Roon is a fabulous tool to to experience Apple Music HiRes songs.
Maybe in another time!
Now that Roon has been acquired by Harmon, does it make sense to reach back out to Apple to see if they might revisit their previous position with regard to what Roon needs for Apple Music?
I agree with this as well. I honestly don’t care if there are sound quality issues, because for me, streaming services are where I look for “music I don’t know but could like”. I don’t necessarily need to have excellent sound quality on a streaming service, as I try to buy music I like to support the musicians. Because great music should be great even when compressed.
Anyway, it would just be nice to be able to use Apple Music on Roon without having to take out another app.
I wonder why Roon couldn’t integrate Apple Music whilst the Sonos app can. Does Sonos have a special agreement with Apple or is it just not a priority on Roon’s roadmap ?
