Description Of Issue

In iTunes folder I have two folders where music is stored one called music where the files appear to be a combination of MP3 audio and Apple MPEG-4 audio. These files appear to play fine via Roon. The files were downloaded from iTunes(Apple Music) using music match and were originally CD or purchased music from Apple or Amazon. The other folder is Apple Music the files in this are exclusively protected MPEG 4 audio files and these were downloaded from Apple on my Apple Music account as I would normally. These folders were created by Apple as I downloaded the files when the Mac mini was first used 5 days ago. The files that are protected MPEG 4 are not seen by ROON. it does however state in ROON that you should able to play these files when downloaded to your system. I understand you can’t play files directly from Apple Music. I would love to keep ROON but unless I can find a work around for these files (without having to buy them on CD and rip or buy them as MP3) its not really going to be worth my while. Please help

Welcome to the forum, @Simon_mackie!

I don’t believe Roon can play files with DRM, so you will need to convert these first to remove the restrictions. You could try this using, for example, a TuneFab iTunes Audio Converter trial.

Hey @Simon_mackie,

Thanks for reaching out about this and clearly explaining what you’re experiencing. @Martin_Webster is right: M4P is protected and not supported in Roon right now. If you want to play those tracks in Roon, you can always convert those files to one of our supported formats.

I hope it’s worth the effort
