Apple TV Extension - Roon TV Remote

Thank You Russell for Your work.

And here comes the next request: :innocent:
Is it possible for You to “use” the volume keys or is this a restriction of Apple? I’m afraid this is the reason why You haven’t done this before…?
Have a nice day,
Alexander

Thanks @anon28286063,

I’ve had a few requests for the volume button feature, the volume keys are restricted to Apple use only.
There are a couple of ways to change the volume in the app. Either with the UI buttons or swiping up down when the now playing screen saver is shown.

Cheers,
Russell

Thanks very much @R_102 - it now discovers my core perfectly.

Russel-

Having a small issue that makes browsing a bit painful:

  • Browse albums, scroll down a bit
  • Clicking an album to see the contents
  • Press MENU to go back up a level
  • It takes you back to the top of the Albums list instead of back to where you were

Also, having an issue getting to Now Playing:

  • Browse albums
  • Scroll to bottom of your album list
  • Now try to get to Now Playing. You have to scroll all the way back to the top of the album list. Pressing MENU has no effect.

Instead, it should work like most Apple TV apps… pressing MENU takes you up a level.

Thanks again for this really useful app.

Hi Nick,

The bowser scrolling is a tricky one due to how browser navigation request are made over the API. Im currently going for the - not ideal, but works consistently approach. I’ll post up a test build once i have a better solution for this one.

A fix for the Now Playing issue shouldn’t be an issue - recall looking at this one, not too sure why I never applied a fix

Cheers,
Russell

Thanks Russell!

Just bought the app, I really like it. Just one wish - would it be possible to add an album view in Now Playing - sort of just one large Picture of the album playing, plus info?

Trouble is the artist pictures that are displayed in the large part are mostly really bad in classical here in Roon. Whilst the album covers are nice.
Maybe an option to choose between the different versions of Now Playing.

Try connecting by the Core’s IP. That worked for me.

Just purchased the app and loving it so far. Well done Russell! (@R_102)

Does Roon have an “approved” list of extensions / apps that it “promotes” in some way? This is now an absolutely core piece of the value proposition for me, and I bet there are a lot of people who haven’t found this on the forums (or who never ever come here) for whom this is absolutely what they’re looking for. I’d love to see @R_102 get some non-trivial money out of it too… and incent more folks to develop for the platform!

Small suggestion for the Now Playing screen. Switch the position of the album cover image and controls every few minutes to avoid screen burn-in. Since it disables the screen saver, I think something like this would be helpful.

@Nick There are a couple of display options in ATV Settings menu that may be of use - See:
Settings > Apps > TV:Remote:

  • Allow ATV Screen Saver
  • Animate Now Playing

Apologies if this in the discussion board somewhere… I’ve been looking for almost an hour to find an answer:

TV:REMOTE says, Found Roon Core, “Go To Settings > Extensions in the Roon App, to enable this extension to your core.”

I’m currently in the Roon App on my desktop and went to Settings > Extensions and it says, “Discovered Roon Extensions” but none appear. I click View and nothing is there in the pop-up window. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

Thanks again Russell.

Hi @Jason_Boucher

What Roon clients / core are running in your system? Does the name displayed in the Found Roon Core message match the name of your Roon Core?
Both Windows and Mac clients advertise themselves as Roon Cores even when being used only as remotes.

Couple of options if the found core name doesn’t match the core, either select “Select a Different Core” to search again or you can enter the core’s IP address manually in ATV > Settings > App >TV:Remote

Another thing to check, can the Roon Core see the Apple TV in Roon > Settings > Audio

Thanks so much @R_102

I entered the Roon core IP Address in ATV > Settings > App >TV:Remote and then restarted everything. That’s when it said it found the Roon core, but could it still did not appear in the Roon app under Settings > Extensions.

Yes, the Roon Core can see Applet TV in Roon > Settings > Audio and I re-established that connection just in case it was old or not seeing it.

I have a Mac Mini as my dedicated Roon Server and it’s networked in my house, but I access the Roon core on my laptop, iPhone and iPad. The Roon Core is Version 1.7 (build 710)

Much appreciated,
Jason

Just discovered this Roon extension and loving it. Very easy to use and great for my failing eyesight.

Two requests- can we have a search tool for my existing albums, like on the Qobuz section?

Can we have the blurb that comes with every album and artist?

If they exist, I apologise as I haven’t discovered them yet

Many thanks Russell

@Jason_Boucher, Sounds like the extension has connected to something… - the found Roon Core message is only shown when connect to a Core.

Does the TV:Remote app find the core when using discovery?
Are you able to try both connection methods without Roon running on the laptop - so just the Mac mini + iOS device to check if the extension is shown?

Thanks @Peter_Singleton

The existing library search should be accessible via Browse > Explore > Library > Search

Unfortunately the album / artist blurb isn’t a feature of the API.

Cheers,
Russell

I love all of this app… except the headless musicians
