Ok thanks, I’ll put together a debug build for you to try.
I just want to give you a big THANKS!!! for doing this. Love it!
Thanks!!! I love it
Downloaded last night and like it a lot.
One issue I found is that it does not appear to respect endpoints/zones/remotes configured as “private.” It is useful to be able to hide people’s phones and personal computers from such a public interface.
Welcome to the forums, Bryce! Hope that the community is useful to you. And yep, I agree the app is wonderful.
I’ve run the extension for some time now and enjoy it immensely, thanks for your work!
Seeing a new issue, at least new for me. A while back, I migrated to a new core, a headless Mac mini. I’m pretty sure I’ve used the extension since then, but lately it will only identify my laptop as a core, though it is not, it’s only a remote, I’m definitely not using it as a core any longer. I’ve made sure the core IP address is correct. If the port number in the TV:Remote app setting should match the port in the IP address, I can’t change this. Any time I select the Core Port Number in settings on my Apple TV, the settings app crashes back to the Home Screen. Router and core and Apple TV have all been restarted with no changes. The Apple TV is an Apple TV HD running tvOS 16.1. Any help would be appreciated!
Try turning off your Mac (or at stopping all roon software) and then trying to re-initialise the app.
When working with the roon api I found the macs running a roon client can respond to the roon core discovery packet, which might be confusing the app.
If I remember you can also manually tell the app your core IP address in settings.
Thanks for the tip, @GregD. Still not finding it. I’ve got the IP address changed in the app settings, but I’m unable to change the port to the correct number. The settings app crashes/closes every time I select the port to change it. I suppose that could well be an Apple TV issue and not an issue with the extension.
Hopefully the author @R_102 will be along shortly!
Hi, @kneville
Can I check that you’re running the latest app build for the App Store? The crash on changing the port number should have been fixed a couple of builds back ![]()
It’s probably worth deleting the TV:Remote app from the ATV and installing a fresh build from the store. We’ll go from there if the problem still persists.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the app.
The available zones list comes straight from the Roon Core. Unfortunately the API doest detail if the zone is public or private.
FWIW, I don’t see my private zones in the AppleTV extension. Wondering what’s going on. My Roon Core is respecting privacy
@Bryce_Lambert
Deleting and reinstalling has me back up and running. Thanks much!
Thanks. Yes, I see now the issue was with the zones being advertised by the Core. Like @Johnny_Ooooops below, after trying later the private zones had disappeared.
@R_102 just wanted to give you props for this great app. It is fantastic! Truly makes Roon a complete audio solution for my home.
Thanks!!
Just got the new AppleTV and was excited to buy the Roon AppleTV app. Apple TV is on one of my AVR’s HDMI inputs, and the Nucleus Core HDMI goes to a different AVR input. When I open Roon Apple TV Remote, select AppleTV as my zone, and play a song I get an AirPlay code that I must enter. Not sure where to enter this code, and when it has worked I get an AirPlay code every time I choose a song (that ain’t gonna be good). When I select Nucleus as the zone I can’t hear it because Nucleus is a different HDMI input than the Apple TV on the screen. (Marantz Cinema 50 does not have separate video and audio assignments for HDMI sources.) Suggestions how to knit these together?
Went through the Apple TV settings- They look fine. When I’m in AppleTV Roon Remote, select AppleTV as the Roon Zone (it’s an airplay connection) and select to play a song, I get an AirPlay 4-digit code on the TV. Into what am I supposed to enter this code? In Roon? (I don’t see where…).
Have you tried…
In the Roon client (e.g., the desktop client), go to Settings / Audio. See if you see your AppleTV listed there. Is it enabled or not? If not, try to enable. Otherwise, maybe try to disable then enable.
I don’t use Airplay, but on mine, I enabled the remote in the Audio clients, and the appletv displayed a 4-digit code. On the Roon desktop client, a prompt popped up asking for that 4-digit code.
Maybe you can try using a client other than the tv:remote to set up the connection.

I was curious about this so I took a look.
I don’t believe it matters that you are using the Apple TV remote. Ultimately you should be able to use the Apple TV remote to control playback to any Roon zone, including the TV. The issue you’re hitting now isn’t specific to the TV remote, though. I think you’ll hit it whether you’re using a phone, computer, whatever.
I could not get an Apple TV to work as a Roon zone regardless of what I did.
In Settings > Audio, I can see my Apple TVs show up. When I try to enable an Apple TV zone, I’m immediately asked for a code. But there is no code displayed on the TV.
I can get the zone added even without entering a correct code. I can do this by entering an incorrect code. The first time I try to play music to that zone, the TV displays a code. Roon, however, is not asking for the code at this point since the zone is already configured (even though it never had a correct code).
I can’t figure out any sequence of events, including disabling and re-enabling the TV zone when the code is displayed, that results in Roon being able to stream music to an Apple TV.
Maybe there’s a trick here that I don’t know but this does like it isn’t working correctly. I wonder if Roon thinks that it is doing what it needs to do during zone setup time to cause the code to be displayed.
I do think you’re correct that there is an issue play to an Apple TV. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Apple TV remote app since I use that for other zones and it works just fine. I hope this helps - I think someone at Roon would have to look at this to figure out what’s going on.
