Just installed the extension. It was a very straightforward and smooth experience and it works flawlessly. Thanks for the wonderful work!
I can see that you’re still busy making the extension work for a wider array of configurations and that you might not be looking for expanding its feature set at the moment. But, if by chance, it’s any easy thing to add, we certainly would enjoy to have the ability to see lyrics to the songs on our TV.
The app works now, but only thru AirPlay. The video looks great, but I don’t know how to pair it with the audio. My core is on a Nucleus played through my dac to audio input on AVR, or from hdmi on Nucleus to AVR. I cast video through Roon to my flat panels.
Airplay is less than satisfactory for audio, in my opinion.
In the “simple screen” mode, where just the transport and art/title is visible, the Apple Remote will still pause and play, but there is no indication of pause or play onscreen. Other that the dancing meter bars, it’s the same with the screen that automatically follows that screen (album cover/title/artist).
So far it seems all this is working very well. (Hardwire).
Just installed the app.
I don’t know if the intention is to also play sound as well ?
I’m using a Pioneer Kuro, and all other apps gives sound via toslink from TV.
(I’m using HQPlayer up sampled, so maybe that’s why no sound). So I let my endpoint take care of sound as always.
So is there a plan to extend the functionality of the app ?
The app is intended to be a remote only - not a Roon endpoint, so won’t play sound via the app itself.
You can, of course, set your ATV to be a Roon endpoint within the Roon app’s audio setup then select it as the output zone in this ATV remote app to have working sound
Thanks for great work. To me this is already full working app, and I know I will use it a lot.
When Roon radio plays, and I hear a new song, just have to look my TV.
Best part for me is to use the Apple remote to pause/play
Mike, did you get this sorted. This app is just a remote. So it should be able to find any of your existing audio zones and control them. I have it on multiple Apple TVs. Some are simply controlling an Apple TV zone, which like you said uses Airplay. But in my primary listening room, I have it controlling a Ropiee zone that is feeding my external DAC. I get high res audio this way, including MQA if I so choose.
Don’t think it will work for my setup. My Nucleus runs through my AVR (HDMI and Analog), the App runs on AppleTV on a separate input. Once I switch from AppleTV to either the HDMI or Analog input, I can no longer use the AppleTV app. Of course if I wanted to forego the AVR as an input and connect though multiple inputs on my panel, I could make it work. But, for me, it is not worth the added complexity of multiple panel inputs. I am perfectly happy with using my iPad as a remote for all my zones. But it is a fine piece of work for those who can use and appreciate it, just not for me.
Gotcha. I had a similar issue. My AppleTV is connect to my AVR via HDMI. I prefer to listen to Roon through my DAC, which is connected to the AVR via analog. Even with my AVR set to automatically switch audio to analog, it won’t do it if the AppleTV is selected. My solution is use an HDMI splitter (not a switch) and run the 2nd HDMI output into another AVR input which is configured to pull video from HDMI and analog audio from the DAC. This also lets me listen to disks through my DAC and not have a blank screen. My external DAC is better than what’s in my Marantz.
