ARC and Apple Lightning Camera Adaptor

My iPhone is now USB-C and hence my Apple lightening Camera Adaptor is redundant. There is no Apple equivalent. However they do retail an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter Dongle.

Can the forum confirm if this would be suitable?

The chain would be Apple iPhone 15 - Apple AV multiport adapter - Meridian Explorer 2 DAC - Line Audio in to my car radio

I’d buy a USB C adapter for Android with a USB A and USB C socket.

this is a “genuine apple part” its seen here running a Dragonfly DAC. USB C one end USB A female the other. same as the camera kit with Lightening replaced by USB c

Thank you for this attractive suggestion. My existing Meridian DAC throws up an insufficient power error message on the iPhone. It would seem your Dragonfly does not hence it is a compelling choice. Meanwhile Currys here in the UK promote (you remember them!) via their eBay channel refurbished Apple AV adapters at a more realistic price with male USB-C for the iPhone and female USB-C and A ports for the DAC & Power. They have a returns policy so I have placed an order. If no joy I will buy your working solution.

@mjw Thanks also

Will update after Easter.

That was Audioquests claim to fame the got current consumption undr the apple limit !’!

Oh I see; I was not aware of that. Nevertheless, I want to keep the Meridian DAC. So as long as the Apple device (currently on order) delivers then off we go! The car is an old Mercedes complete with CD player and line-in port. I am not messing about with aftermarket CarPlay units or iPads velcroed to the fascia etc etc., so the tested solution, if operational, should be of interest to perhaps a minority of old car forum users. Updates to follow.

Oh so modern

My car has my old iPod classic 160GB plugged into USB, still works a treat must be getting on at least 15 yrs old

I still can’t fathom why the Apple TV 4K can’t output hi-res audio via HDMI?

Anyone got any ideas?

Yes. No boings. No cameras. No lane assist. Nice analogue dials, with proper physical analogue control knobs.

Just drive!

For the rest of you I already apologise for not embracing current motoring trends. The clue is motoring not sitting in an appliance

I’ll stop this indulgence now as this is way off topic.

Updates

Connecting an official Apple lightening camera connector via an official Apple lightening to USB adapter returns an unrecognised device iOS message. So the former is consigned to the bin! However there is some good news …. The Meridian Explorer DAC works perfectly interfacing to iPhone USB-C port using an official Apple USB-A to C converter

So now, I cannot charge the phone whilst travelling as there is no charging port. I guess I can either: a. charge the iPhone wirelessly or b. buy a new car. I do hope this is of use to those who persist in sticking to car audio line-in. Thanks for listening!

This is the exact device I use with DAC and a battery pack.

Update (2)
The Meridian Explorer 2 DAC is replaced with a Chord Mojo2. This device drains the iPhone far less as it is battery powered (11 hrs. capacity) and in addition has a USB charging port.
It is a brilliant piece of kit and will be used outside the car as well!
