Describe the issue

I’ve banned a number of albums in Roon. However, I’m seeing that ARC smart downloads continuously tries to download these albums. When I manually delete the download of the banned album in ARC, ARC simply starts to download again. Same when I cancel the download.

Hi @SvenM,

Thank you for posting. What’s the name of one of the albums in question? Please also share the format if you have multiple versions of this album.

Does ARC ever add these albums to the queue or attempt to play them (I’m assuming this is limited to downloading)?

We’ll pinpoint the event in logs and investigate to confirm what’s happening.

Hi @connor,

Thanks for your response.
As requested, here’s a few names of albums that are banned but downloaded by ARC:

  • Jason Donovan - Ten Good Reasons
  • Various Artists - Presto Print Collection I
  • Various Artists - Presto Print Collection II

All these albums are AIFF 44/16 on the Roon Server. Download quality is “Balanced”.

I typically select music manually, so I haven’t noticed that ARC has added these albums to the queue.

Additional info: the storage that is available for ARC is currently larger than the storage required for all albums in “Balanced” quantity.

Hi @SvenM,
I think there may be some confusion about the function of banning a track. Here is the article on the topic https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/faq-global-bans. It says " Bans allow you to specify music that you never want Roon to recommend or play automatically. You can ban artists, albums, tracks, composers, and compositions, and with Global Bans you can ban content whether it’s in your library or not." So I think that this is expected behavior. You can submit a Feature Suggestions if you think it should function differently. Once you post there other users can upvote your suggestion. Once it garners enough interest our product team will take a look at your suggestions feasability.

Thanks for the update. I’ll create a feature suggestion.

Still I want to point out that I fail to see the logic in this “expected” behavior given the explanation of smart downloads:

What is Smart Downloads?

Smart Downloads (SDL) is a feature that automatically downloads your favorite music to your phone, so it’s ready on your device for offline listening whenever you want it. SDL takes into account your listening habits, history, favorites, and recent activity to determine the music you like the most. The more you listen, add, and favorite, the better your Smart Downloads will be.

I can understand it was not considered in development, in which case it would be “expected” from a technical point of view. It is however not expected from a functional point of view.

I can understand your perspective which is why I suggested making a feature request. I’m going to close this thread as it is veering off-topic for the Support section of Community.
