ARC iOS Login Passes SSO But then Fails with "Something went wrong" [Ticket In]

What’s happening?

· I'm having trouble with Roon ARC

What best describes your issue with ARC

· I can't log into ARC but I can log into Roon

Describe the issue

I have been having issues trying to login to Roon Arc on IOS18. It either says "invalid recaptcha" or "Something went wrong. Please try again". I had no issues accessing Arc on two other Android phones so I believe it has something to do with the device itself.

I looked through the forums and have already tried the following steps:
a) Switch default browser to Firefox or Brave
b) Turn off "Block pop-ups"
c) Turn off "Prevent cross-site tracking" and "Hide IP Address"
d) Turn off "Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection"
e) Turn off "Block all cookies"
f) Uninstall all Ad-blocker extension
g) Tried logging in on the same network as the other 2 Android device

Almost at my wits' end here trying to figure this out.

Describe your network setup

ISP ONR > Unifi Switch > Debian-based Roon Server

Shouldn't be an issue since i can access on my android phone.

Hey @GreenFrog,

Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear about your new Arc issues. I noticed from your screenshot your attempting to login via cellular data (which shouldn’t be an issue) but could you also attempt to log in via your wifi as well?

And to confirm, when you access your Roon Settings > Roon Arc, you have the purple check mark showing Arc is properly setup within your system?

Lastly, as a side test, could you also download our .APK version of Arc and see if you have the same issue? Here’s the download link:

https://download.roonlabs.net/builds/RoonARC.apk

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thanks!

Facing the same issue on wifi. Just to clarify, I’m having issues on my Iphone 14. I tested on 2 other Android Devices and I can login and connect to my Roon Server just fine.

Ah! My apologies there @GreenFrog, thanks for the follow up.

Can you also double check:

iPhone settings>Privacy & security> Local Network> ensure Arc is toggled on. Re-toggle it just to be safe.

Thanks!

Roon Arc isn’t listed in the local network settings. I can only see the Roon app.

Hello @GreenFrog ,

Do you have any Content Blockers toggled on in your Safari settings?

  1. Open up the Safari browser.
  2. Open the “Safari” menu in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Click “Preferences” > “Websites” > “Content blockers.”
  4. Any content blocking services currently active will be listed here. If any are active, toggle them off and try to login again.

One other suggestion is to clear your Safari Cache & Cookies, as I have seen this help with Capcha errors in the past.

I don’t see this setting anywhere. Might have been removed in ios18 (not sure).

I’ve done this multiple times.

Hi @GreenFrog,

Thank you for your patience.

First, close the other instances of ARC on this network (the Android phone). Next, uninstall and reinstall ARC on the iPhone.

From there, open Safari on the iPhone and navigate to the Roon account page in the browser. Sign in there. Does the SSO succeed?

If so, then log out of your Roon account and try again from ARC. If not, then please let us know.

We’ll collect diagnostics on the backend. Thank you!

Just did the steps which you mentioned before commenting here in case you need the timestamp.

Yes. No issues with logging in on browser.

Unfortunately, still unsuccessful. I made sure to disable all the necessary privacy & security settings under safari.

Not sure how noteworthy this is but if press login on the Roon Arc app and press cancel without logging in, the same “Something went wrong” error message still comes up.

Ok, I am at my wits end here.
For the last week I have been trying to login to Roon ARC on my iPad Pro 2021.
All of my iPad OS and Roon apps are all up to date as of the time of this post.

When I try to login to ARC on my iPad, I get an error that “something went wrong” and am prompted to “try again.”

Steps I have tried to get this to work:
1- rebooted mac mini where core runs
2- restarted roon
3- restarted raat
4- restarted arc on ipad
5- deleted and reinstalled arc and roon remote on ipad
6- tried on several different networks
7- checked port forwarding on my router
8- reset the listening feature in the roon program on my pc (port is set to 55002)

No matter what the heck I do, I cannot login to ARC on my ipad - I am losing my mind
I finally decided to pull the $800+ trigger on a lifetime license for Roon this year, and this is my initial greeting… unhappy at the moment

Maybe I am missing something simple? I would love for a Roon tech person to give me some totally obvious answer where I can feel dumb but also be happy that I am moving on.

It should be said, my iPhone 15 Pro Max runs ARC with zero issues, and has been running for weeks and weeks now with never giving me any trouble. Both my phone and iPad point to the same Roon server.

Can someone please help me figure out how to get ARC up and running on my iPad?
Is there some cache to clear, or some Roon info I need to figure out how to permanently delete from my iPad that I am unaware of?

Anyway - please chime in if you can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Blesings

Hi @giantporpoise,

Thank you for your post. First, try disabling content blockers in your Safari settings. On the iPad, this would be in Settings → Safari → Extensions.

Clear the cookies and history in this browser.

This step helps with login failures in most cases on iOS. We’ll keep an eye out for your response.

Hi @GreenFrog ,

Thanks for giving those suggestions a try. Do you by any chance have Private Relay turned on?

Or a VPN?

Settings > General > scroll down to VPN & Device Management > VPN > Simply turning off VPN Status will auto reconnect and turn VPN back on. > Select VPN [click on the blue ** I ] > TURN OFF Connect on demand.

Ok, got myself home and back on my network.
I did precisely as you suggested, multiple times…and after clearing out content blockers (which there were none listed) and deleting all the cookies and history in Safari, also uninstalled Roon apps and reinstalled, re-logged in to the server (at least on Remote) I still have the same persistent issue. Every time, seems no matter what the heck I do, I just get a something went wrong try again message. Highly irritated but still willing to keep plugging away at some troubleshooting. Any other advice?

I don’t think I should have to, but I am half curious to wipe the iPad clean, and have Roon apps be the only thing on it and see what happens from there. Seems extreme though and very unnecessary.

Thoughts?

Hi @giantporpoise,
Thanks for trying those steps out.

You’re right that shouldn’t be necessary. We looked into your logs and found the traces for one of the failed login attempts. Including this:

type: roonmobile.login_failed, properties: {error:STRING: network_error, app:STRING: RoonARC,

As you can see a network error is occurring that is causing this to happen. So we should look at network differences between the iPhone and the iPad.

Does the iPad have a data plan? If so is it with a carrier than the iPhone?

If you have been trying to connect the iPad with a Wi-Fi connection can your iPhone connect to ARC using that same Wi-Fi network?

What’s happening?

What best describes your issue with ARC

· I can't log into ARC but I can log into Roon

Describe the issue

It accepts my login and password. Then a page comes up saying not to login unless I’m sure I downloaded it from Roon. I click log in. A message comes up “something went wrong” and won’t finish logging in. It’s just with my iPhone 13 mini. It works with my iPad and android tablet.

Describe your network setup

Att fiber. Gateway BGW320- 500

iPhone is on ATT, iPad has wifi only.
I have tried the iPad on the wifi at my house, wifi at my work, with or without a vpn, on my phone’s hotspot… every kind of connection that has been available to me. Even tried on the wifi at a hotel in San Diego this last week while on military orders… also a no go.

My phone, quite to the contrary, connects to ARC with zero issues on every form of connection I have tried… wifi at home and work, with or without vpn, on cell data only, and on the go at that same hotel in SD

Hi @giantporpoise,

Thanks for providing that info and for your patient testing. We’re investigating your issue with Devs and Product and will respond here shortly with our findings and next steps.

In the meantime, on the iPad, what happens if you attempt to login in a browser via the Roon accounts page? It uses the same SSO service - this will help identify the failure point in the login process diagnostically.

In the meantime, are you able to provide a set of RoonServer logs from your Mac Mini? Please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader at your convenience.

Hi @garywrona,

Thank you for your post. For due diligence, please clear the cookies and disable any content blocker extensions in Settings → Safari on this phone.

Then navigate to the Roon accounts page in a browser on this phone. Try logging in there. If you can successfully login, then log back out and try again in ARC.

Do you have ARC installed on a second device, out of curiosity?

Hello again,
When I try to login to the Roon page in a browser window (tried in Safari, Vivaldi, and Firefox) it logs in just fine no issues.

I have uploaded the logs from my Mac Mini (Roon Server) as well as the RAAT logs for good measure. Do with them what you like. (both files have “giantporpoise” in the name.

Anything else I can do to try and help resolve this issue, just let me know and I will get that done right away.

Hello,
exactly the same picture here.

On the same WiFi, iPhone ARC works, iPad doesn’t. Mobile data (same data provider as iPhone) > iPhone ARC works, iPad not.
Safari > History and cookies cleared. Reinstalled ARC APP. Logging into the ROON account via browser works with the iPad, ROON Remote works on the iPad.
Adjusted settings between iPhone and iPad, I can’t find any differences. Wi-Fi settings (device and router) of the two devices were compared, I can’t find any differences.

If there is a solution here, I would be very interested.

Greetings, Thorsten.
