ARC keeps crashing!

As I have detailed many times in previous posts - which have been closed hence I need to post again - Roon ARC on my iPhone keeps crashing after ~20 seconds of starting the app.

Chronology: I install the app on my iPhone (15 Pro Max, 1tb mem, about 600gb free). Start app and have to keep it live for initial sync which takes a few minutes (my library is about 320k tracks). It then works for a few days but eventually it starts crashing about 20 seconds after starting it. The only fix is to delete the app and start over.

I think this is an issue with db syncing: every time you start the app it tries to sync the db and at some point the db is too large and the app starts crashing.

Ultimately I don’t know the cause of the crashes and more importantly, I don’t want to know or care about this but rather would like a working app!

Hi @miguelito,

Thank you for the report. We’ve activated diagnostics reports for your account so we can pin this issue down and resolve it once and for all.

The phone is reporting memory pressure to the ARC framework, and the large library size is possibly a factor here. However, we need to rule out every other possible failure first.

When is the last approximate timestamp of the crash you’ve described? We’ll take a closer look and follow up as soon as possible.

Sometime this week. I am not a heavy ARC user, mostly because of this issue. I just reinstalled ARC from scratch, so when it starts to crash (it would generally work fine for a few days) I will report back to this thread.

Thx.

Miguel

@Connor - it just crashed 20 seconds after startup, three times. May 6, 19:55 ET.

@connor - I should also add for completeness that once it starts crashing, it never recovers. The only way to start using it again is to uninstall ARC and reinstall it.

I have absolutely exact the same issue, once it crashed, it crashs every 20 seconds

Exactly. How big is your library?

450k songs, around 350k local and 100k Qobuz, Roon DB is around 30GB

Ok thank you. I have about 320k tracks, not disimilar. I get the sense this is an ARC memory management problem.

@connor Would love to know your thoughts on this…

@connor - would appreciate some feedback!

@connor @benjamin

Happy to open another support ticket on this. We need some form of reply from the Roon team on this.

Hey @miguelito,

You have our apologies for the long delay in following up! Please know that our team, @connor included is working behind the scenes on improving the overall sync process with Arc - I’m sorry you’re still running into issues with your current setup.

If possible, could you perform an A/B test : first create a fresh backup of your current database. From there, remove your Tidal account from Roon, and see about syncing with Arc without Tidal included in the process.

Do you still have the same issues?

I appreciate the followup, thank you.

To replicate the issue, if it exists in a case without Tidal in the db, I would have to run with a no-Tidal setup for a week at least. This is too much to ask. I won’t do this.

Hi @miguelito,

Understood! If we have any updates to share regarding Arc sync updates - you will be notified.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.
