ARC requires your home network to have either port forwarding or Tailscale configured. This is to navigate Network Address Translation, imposed in layers by each active router in your network.
Roon relies on a service in your router called UPnP to automatically configure port forwarding, but it couldn’t detect an active UPnP service in your router.
You need to first try to enable UPnP, and if that doesn’t work, you’ll need to configure a manual port forwarding rule. These will be in your router settings administration page.
Here’s a guide you can use.
If you have two routers, or if your network service provider has implemented their own network address translation (CG-NAT), then we’ll need to take a few extra steps. For now, please try the steps suggested in the post and article shared above.
If it worked before and you didn’t change anything, it’s possible that your router simply ran into a bug and its UPnP service is unresponsive. First try simply shutting down everything (router, switches, computers running Roon), then first restart your router and wait until it’s fully back up, then start your switches and then the Roon machines (starting with the server). Maybe that’s all that’s needed.
If this problem is still ongoing for you, please verify if a background firmware update to the router default either your UPnP or port forwarding settings.
An additional quick test: change the port number in Roon Settings → ARC to a nearby integer, like 55600 instead of 55000.
Please share the current diagnostic you see in Roon Settings → ARC as well.
