Aries / Vega S1 Roon Certification Status

My Vega s1 has been recognised as an Aries-Mini since the firmware update to 10.0.6 - I was a bit surprised but I could imagine that Auralic did that because the roon function of the aries mini is also applicable to the Vega s1 - just to give people like us the functionality of roon, which is why I bought the device in June…

In addition: i just wanted to find out when the update to 10.0.6 came in and found this site: https://support.auralic.com/hc/en-us/articles/29830031639572-Firmware-Version-10-0-6-Build-20240827

Interesting hint with the USB connection, I had not known until now, whereby the connection with the Lan cable (and of course roon transport) already brought a much better result than Airplay. So it could be that the next update will bring another improvement… or it just worked so well in my constellation… (until recently I had a sonictransporter i5 1stG and now a Rhein Z1v2) with both there were no problems at all…

Thanks for chiming in @jurgen_brinkmann!

I doubt that Auralic would have communicated the Aries Mini workaround as a proper certification, but seems like a handful of hifi blogs have reported it as such, even including the same screenshot you shared that clearly shows the Aries Mini icon/avatar next to the device.

What caught my attention here was the explicit statement that I quoted about certification (not workaround).

Sorry, I was probably a bit euphoric and thought that due to today’s date the report of the real certification by roon would be correct, (even if the workaround works well for me) but after your answer I also stumbled across Hifiblog which also reported a proper certification by roon, and that on September 2nd… confusing - but finally i would agree with the answer byChrism within the auralic community, that we have to wait for the appearance of the s1 series on the roon partners side.

I’m trialing a Vega S1 at the moment and using the workaround. In truth the S1 appeared in Roon on day 1 and I didn’t think anything about it.

What’s the limitation of the workaround , if any ? Should I send the S1 back?

It’s not guaranteed to work fully as in some scenarios stuff might just not work as it should as it’s not the correct device nor will you get support from Roon as it’s an uncertified device.

Thanks. Sadly it’ll have to go back then

Can Roon officially confirm whether Auralic’s decision to misreport the S1 as an Auralic Mini is sanctioned?

Woop woop Roon x AURALiC
