The most common culprit for this condition is network security intercepting requests to the URLs containing those images.
A couple things to try:
Ensure Roon is safelisted in any firewalls and antivirus software
Double-check that a reliable DNS service is assigned in your router (we recommend Cloudflare, 1.1.1.1).
Restart both RoonServer and Roon itself to clear the image cache.

Roon Server is Rock ver 2.70 build 1671 on an Intel Nuc - still working fine for years.
Limited functionaliy Remote: MacMini Late 2018 Sequoia 15.7.7 Roon ver 2.70 build 1671 displays all album, artist, genre, etc. artwork as gray squares. All other functionality: music play, search, add to library, etc. works.
Other Remotes: iPhone 11, iPad 2, Windows 11 version running in Parallel VM on same MacMini 2018 - all work and display all album, artist, genre, etc artwork.

I migrated my Roon instance from a MacMini 2012 to my newer MacMini 2018. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Roon Remote in the hope that there was some setting that had been cached preventing MacMini Sequoia Roon Remote instance from pulling the album art from the networked Intel Nuc Roon Server. I’ve uninstalled various Roon folders and contents from User Library, specifically Roon, Roon Server, RoonGoer, RAATserver, as well as the Roon app from the Applications folder. Each time I reinstalled Roon, it would ask to Connect to my Intel Nuc Roon Server but alas would not display the artwork.
In contrast, I launched a Windows 11 virtual machine on that same MacMini, downloaded and installed Roon Remote for Windows, connected to my Intel Nuc Roon Server and within seconds the Windows version pulled all album, artist, genre, etc. artwork and behaved as expected for play, search, etc.
I sure hope it’s a simple global setting in Roon Remote, MacOS Sequoia, Asus Router, McAfee, etc, because I would much rather launch Roon Remote natively in MacOS Sequoia than have to launch a Windows virtual machine.

This was my culprit(s): MacOS Sequoia 15.7.7 System Settings > Network > VPN & Filters > Filters & Proxies > McAfeeSystem - Content Filter - Enabled. Once I disabled the McAfee content filter, my album artwork immediately started reappearing in my Roon Remote UI.
FWIW. Interestingly, before I found the above MacOS setting, I turned off the McAfee firewall directly in McAfee Total Protection Console to no avail. I deactivated the firewall in MacOS Settings also no change.I added the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 settings to my router, no change. I slogged through MacOS System Settings > Privacy & Security, and System Settings > Screen Time (thinking maybe some Parental Control was involved).
Now I am in the quandary of wanting content filtering in general but no filtering between Roon Remote and Roon Server. I haven’t yet found a whitelist or URL exclusion setting in MacOS Filters & Proxies nor McAfee to allow that specific URL to be unfiltered (I am no expert).
In the meantime, I scrolled through my entire album, artist and genre sections of Roon Remote to clear all the gray squares and circles (repopulated the thumbnail image caches). That way, when I restore content filtering, I can at least browse my collection and pick an album to listen to based on images cached on my MacMini.
If you know a way to selectively filter in MacOS and McAfee, I am all ears. At least, now I know where to focus any future efforts, while I enjoy a far more visually appealing Roon Remote.

Have a look at NextDNS - The new firewall for the modern Internet which I’ve been using for years and am very happy with. It works great with Roon, and gives you lots of control for black/white listing stuff at the DNS level. I’ve personally never been a fan of McAfee for various reasons.
Thanks mikeb. Good idea to evaluate alternative solutions given the current inabilty to tune content filtering with my existing solutions. I’ll check out the Next DNS free trial. Looks promising.
