Astell Kern SR35 disappears as endpoint when trying to play music (ref#XY8IRJ)

Describe the issue

I can connect my new Astell Kern SR35 as an endpoint - it shows on both my pixel 8 pro and my IPad. When I try to play something the SK35 icon disappears, nothing plays and the SK35 is removed from the settings/audio screen page on both the phone and the iPad. I have a CA1000T from the same brand and it works perfectly on both the phone and iPad.

Describe your network setup

Connection to the SR35 is via wi-fi, fibre to Zyxel router, EE switch to Etherregen switch, cable to UniFi AP AC Lite wi-fi point. SR35 connects to wi-fi and has downloaded and installed an update to OS. Again, AK CA1000T works perfectly fine via same network.

If I restart the AR35 it reappears as an end point in Roon. The AR35 also shows that it’s Roon Ready. Still doesn’t work!

All references to the AK player should read SR35 :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey @Clembo,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! It’s good to see you on community again.

Our team will attempt to reproduce this in house, in the meantime, let’s see if a RAATserver refresh may help:

You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Let me know how things feel after the above! :+1:

Thanks so much for the very quick response. Really impressive really.

Will get back to you when I have tried your suggestion.

Best wishes

Colin

Hi @Clembo,

The team hasn’t been able to reproduce this issue on the SR35 in-house so far, so we want to examine conditions specific to your network environment.

As a next test, isolate the network pathway to remove the managed hardware (switches and access point) that can statefully direct traffic. This will simplify conditions so we can figure out what’s happening between the server and the A&K Zone.

Where is the RoonServer machine connected in your network topology? Try connecting both the A&K and RoonServer directly to the main Zyzel router via WiFi and ethernet respectively, bypassing both switches and the access point.

Then add these elements back in one at a time, noting when the issue returns.

Problem sorted!!!

I followed the steps you described (apart from renaming the RAAT folder). In the process I discovered that the NUC’s WiFi was on, which I didn’t know, so I turned it off and rebooted the router to re-establish connections.

The SR35 still didn’t play so I restored it to factory settings, set the WiFi to the Zyxel router and lo and behold, it worked.

Many thanks for your help and for the speed of your responses. :+1:
