Describe the issue

I’m back using Roon today after almost a year  and have an issue I didn’t before.
My Server is now on a different machine - M3 Macbook Air running Sequoia 15.1
All my Zones work but one: On my PC (Windows 11 Latest Updates) one device works and the others give Too Many Failures.
Both the Schiit DAC and the ORA speakers are connected by USB.
The Schiit plays as expected but if I select the ORA speakers, Alienware (System Output) or Realtek Audio (Which is disabled in my screenshot but I did test it) I get Too Many Failures immediately.
I know Too Many Failures is usually Network related but this doesn’t seem to explain why one device works and the others don’t.
The outputs that aren’t working with Roon work fine with other audio apps including Streaming apps like Apple Music or Qobuz.
I checked the Mac’s System Settings to be sure Roon has access to the Local Network.
RAATserver and the Roon apps are all enabled on the PC Firewall.
The devices that don’t work aren’t Private Zones.
Restarted everything.
I could play to System Output or Realtek on this same PC from my previous Server.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi @Placebophile,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. The best way to troubleshoot this is to locate the event in your logs. Can you please reproduce the Too many Failures error and let us know the date and time it happened? Once we have that information we can begin troubleshooting.

Hey Daniel.
November 6 - 12:18pm PST
You should see it fail to system output and then work to the Schiit DAC on the same PC.

Hi @Placebophile,

Thank you for your post.

Diagnostics show the ORA Zone refusing to play PCM at 16-bit, 44.1KHz because of unsupported format errors.

Can you please share a screenshot of the following?

  1. Signal Path in Roon for this Zone
  2. The Windows system settings for the Wasapi driver you’re using here
  3. The Device Setup page for the affected Zones in Roon

A few due diligence items:

  1. Disable all DSP for testing
  2. Verify that Exclusive Mode is toggled on in Device Setup for this Wasapi Zone
  3. Verify that Wasapi itself isn’t configured to only accept content at a particular bit depth and sample rate. Is Wasapi in Shared mode on this machine? Is there other software that is retaining control of Wasapi if not and restricting its input? Close any DAWs or other audio software and restart the machine.

Thank you and we’ll watch for your response.

Thanks for this.
It’s working now.

While gathering the info you requested I noticed the boxes for Exclusive Mode were unchecked in Windows Sound Settings:
Speakers Properties>Advanced Tab.
Checking these got it working again both in Exclusive Mode and with Windows Mixer
