Description of Issue

I connect my computer with Roon installed to my Ayon Audio DAC using the USB ports. I go to Settings / Audio / Device Setup. Under Audio Device it says: xCore USB Audio 2.0. I have Exclusive Mode enabled. DSD over PCM no option for native. Max sample rate allowed on my screen is 384 kHz. Max bits per sample allows me 24 even though my DAC is capable of 32 bits. Max sample rate DSD only allows me a max of 128 DSD even though my DAC plays 512 DSD. My question is why do my audio settings not allow me to choose 32 bits and 512 DSD playback ? Shouldn’t Roon recognize these capabilities and allow for them on the audio setup screen ? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Roon reports only what it interprets the downstream gear being capable of operating at once it is connected to it.
Not saying it is right but ATM it thinks dsd 128 is the maximum your dac can handle.

Quick internet search says even the cd35 signature only handles up to dsd256 over USB.

Even though not dsd512 something is off at Roon it seems

Are you allowing it to run 768 in settings?
Not got a maximum of 384 set in there?
Like I have it set for 384 but dsd512.

If this is the Stealth or Stealth XS, their specs shows conversion rate as: 768kHz/32 bit, PCM up to 192k, 64xDSD, 128xDSD. Do you have a different model?

It does not give me the option of 768kHz or 32 bit in settings, only 384kHz and 24 bit.

I have the CD-35 II Signature which I was told by Ayon Audio plays 512DSD. I tend to believe them because the startup screen flashes all the files it can play which includes 256 and 512 DSD.

Could it be the USB cable I am using ? It’s just an old printer cable. This is all new to me so please bear with me if that’s a stupid question. thanks.

It may be worth trying a new cable. I’ve been reading audio usb cables are built differently. As they fill different needs.

No stupid questions ever IMHO, unless you don’t ask you might never know.
I honestly would not have thought it was the USB cable but I know some have reported strange problems that were fixed with a change of cable so never say never.
If you can get hold of a newer or alternative cable it won’t hurt to try.

Then that is what Roon thinks is the DAC capability.
Try a different USB cable for sure.
I don’t have any further ideas ATM.

Does it need a driver? I have a Fostex Amp here. it does DSD512 natively. If I use the ASIO profile it has native decoding, if I use the WASAPI interface my options are far more limited.
A different amp I have required a driver to get it working with ASIO properly as well. I can screenshot both config options to show the difference if it helps.

Thought it did 512 . . .

Thanks. Ayon Audio is actually installing Roon and Qobuz on a RS9 music server I purchased from them, along with an IPAD Air. They will ship everything back to me and then remotely and over the phone go over all the settings with me. I just set this up in the meantime to see how it all works. For me this is all new and very complicated. Again, thanks for all your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks. Where and how do I go to those settings ? What driver may I need ?

https://www.ayonaudiousa.com/downloads/XMOS-Stereo-USB-Audio-Class2-Driver-301F_v3.34.0.exe

This would be the driver I believe.

Select the three horizontal lines on the left (in the windows client)
Scroll down to Setting → Select Audio
Check out all the possible ways Roon thinks you can play music. Find the Ayon Audio (or whichever device as the process is the same) click on the settings gear.
If you scroll down to advanced you can see all the options there.

There website doesn’t show any variant going above 256, but it also does not show a CD-35 II Signature, so it might be a discontinued model that did go to 512.

Downloaded driver successfully. When I try to Enable it says: Devise initialization failed. Hit Retry and it still fails. I think that could be what is wrong though. Thanks for your help.

Reboot the system, computer and player. off, count to 5, turn them back on. Try again.
I think it is always a good idea to start with a clean steady state.

I just bought it a few months ago. I don’t think their website is very up to date.

Just shut it all down. Still won’t connect.
