Audirvana Studio

Not that we have 32-bit music files but Roon passes 32-bit test for you?

Even RME Engineers have tested and confirmed only HQPlayer and one other program I can’t recall (not Roon) , so far can pass that test…

Yes all 32 bit test files pass no issues.

Same here: Roon passed all RME tests (16, 24 and 32 bit).

Also tested using squeezelite player in Ropieee still passes.

Cool thanks. I tested early in the year and it failed and I reported it. I wonder Roon 1.8 had this updated.

Anyway, sorted now. Good to see.

It’s always been fine for me. Passsd before in 1.7 when I got the DAC early last summer. First thing I checked. That was direct from core then no Ropieee in-between.

Cool, I’ll re-test macOS and Linux endpoints and then let RME know to update their manual…

I can’t vouch for MacOS only ROCK and Ropieee and Squeezelite(via Roon and LMS)

Yeh i’ll re-test myself and let RME know to update their manual

If only AudiVarna ran headless on Linux I would give it more of a try. I tried it on windows laptop via UPnP to my Naim system and it was too flakey to use and expect the Mrs to use it as well. Also the UI just isn’t a patch on Roon. I guess it’s built for local playback from the pc more than network playback.

That might take a drastic turn for the better (or worse!) with their new update coming next week. Nobody knows yet. Have to give it a free trial when it’s out. It’s said that local and streaming albums will be better integrated.

Works perfectly fine over UPnP to me - I think it depends heavily on UPnP renderer. That can be flakey between different manufacturers.

But Audirivana itself worked perfectly for me with my UPnP renders.

Naims renderer is very good. But when I tried it they were not good with pushing rather pulling with their own app. They did updates since then to allow better control from 3rd party controllers such as Bubble and Kazoo but not tried it since. Bubble works just fine for UPnP and all its foibles.

That aside I have no desire to use a window or Mac desktop or laptop to run my audio server. Needs to be an always on appliance that does nothing but it’s job. That’s the one big pluses of ROCK and Roon.

This is one reason Roon won’t touch UPnP. Some combinations of server and renderer can be absolutely reliable and some just a disaster.

Qobuz still haven’t been able to sort out UPnP with their desktop apps for years… UPnP support has been in ‘beta’ for years… sometimes disappearing from their app entirely and then making a re-appearance.

But Audirvana has never been the source of UPnP issues for me - it’s the other end for me.

God yes j tried that a few times before Roon added it. What a joke. I ended up using Bubble which worked very well.

Bubble and Audirvana and mConnect Player have been rock solid reliable sources for years for me.

Having a reliable renderer on the other end is what varies. In my cases my main UPnP renderer is HQPlayer, who’s developer knows his sh!t and it’s UPnP input is as reliable as Roon input for years for me.

I don’t see Audirvana as a viable alternative to Roon for me. The UI might improve in Audirvana Studio, we will see. But the metadata integration as well as the multi-room/endpoint capability of Roon is much more advanced than Audirvana. I want to be able to stream to multiple/grouped end-points in different areas of the house in a seamless way. Audirvana doesn’t do that…

Comparing roon to audirvana isn’t at all an apples to apples comparison. Totally diff use case / functionality and which one is better is up to the user to determine.

Additionally, you would be naive in thinking if you have a lifetime roon lic you’re good. Roon “2.0” could easily wipe out lifetime lic and req you to be on subscription. I could be wrong and hope that’s not the case, but I’m sure somewhere in the fine print they have that covered.

I think Roon lifers are safe, there’s even a backup plan.
