I’m getting into using Roon’s native tagging functionality as a way to add context to albums in my collection and to aid discovery. I’m finding it especially handy to tag different EOY Best Of lists. The only problem is that tagging albums one by one can be quite time consuming, especially when you’ve got a bunch of lists of Top 50 or Top 100 albums.
Does anyone know of any external software that can automate this process, similarly to how Soundiiz allows me to turn a text list of songs/albums into a playlist?
I don’t think there’s external software that can automate something within Roon.
Are you aware that you can multi-select albums (or other items) and tag them together? I summarized it here for playlists but it works the same for albums (or tracks, artists, …):
Using this approach, you can also do other things for multiple items at once, like editing genres or credits.
Thanks for the quick reply. Your batch editing solution wouldn’t work in this case because in many instances I’m also adding an album to my collection so that I can tag it. My typical workflow is “search for album” → is it in collection? → if yes, add tag, if no, add to library and add tag
You can add tags via any editor so will be picked up on import by adding these tags ROONALBUTAG or ROONTRACKTAG and it’s course a value. I do this for all my rips and purchases to tell me where I got them from or where the cd lives. You can add multiple values as well.
I use MusicBrainz Picard or MP3TAG to batch them but any tagger that allows you to add custom tags will work.
Only for local files, of course. I thought the OP means streaming, as they mentioned Soundiiz. (Edit: and adding to library, which only is a thing with streaming as well)
