An EP (Aurélien Pontier piano) has just been released with Newly discovered at the end of 2025 organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach: the Ciacona in D minor, BWV 1178, and the Ciacona in G minor, BWV 1179.
As of 17 November 2025, the index of Bach’s works (BWV) has been enriched by two numbers, but they are still missing from the Bach’s compositions in Roon database…
Thank you for bringing this to our attention! It is always exciting to see the BWV index grow, and we appreciate you pointing out these two newly discovered Chaconnes (BWV 1178 and BWV 1179).
To help our metadata team investigate why these are not yet appearing under Bach’s compositions in Roon, could you please clarify a few details?
Album Identification: You mentioned the album is identified. Could you please try editing the album and provide a screenshot from the pop-up menu?
Version Details: Are you primarily viewing this EP via TIDAL or Qobuz, or do you have a local copy of the files?
Composition Tab: To confirm, when you go to Johann Sebastian Bach’s artist page and select the Compositions tab, you have tried searching for “1178” or “1179” and nothing appears, correct?
Once we have this information, we can determine if we need to reach out to our metadata providers to have these new BWV numbers added to the global classical database.
My fault – I misunderstood the term “Album Identification.” So, in fact, this album is NOT identified by Roon.
This is not a local copy of the files; this EP has been added to my favourites on Qobuz.
I cited this album, published on Qobuz, to point out that streaming services already have albums with these works (including their BWV numbers). The earlier one is “Ciaccona e Fuga In Re Minore - Bwv 1178 (Arnstadt, Ca. 1705) by Rubens Russomanno Ricciardi” – and I see that 1178 is already in the Roon database of Bach compositions.
