Roon Nucleus One is attached with a cable to my home network. A Samsung T5 250 GB SSD drive is connected directly to one of the USB ports of the Nucleus One. The SSD is used solely for the purpose of making back-ups of the database.
Connected Audio Devices
Irrelevant to my issue.
Number of Tracks in Library
Library consists of less then 50.000 tracks.
Description of Issue
The Nucleus One skips back-ups for no apparent reason (see screenshot below):
As you can see no back-up were made on the 27th and the 29th of june. This is just an example of the past week. It happens every week that 1 or 2 back-ups are randomly being skipped. To be clear, according to my back-up schedule (see screenshot below) back-ups should be made daily.
It is not a big issue for me, since there are not many changes in my database every day, but it puzzles my mind that back-ups are randomly skipped. I used to be a software developer (long ago, I admit) and I simply can’t figure out what goes wrong here. I use the Nucleus One for two months now and everything works fine, but I would like to know if there is a solution to my problem.
We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.
You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
Thank you for addressing my issue. I forgot to mention that part of my library sits on a Synology server which is connected to my network. The rest of my library comes from a Qobuz subscription.
If there was an error to say it failed to do the update, I could, as Roon would, have a guess at the reason. Logs would show RAM being maxed out and crashing the N1.
Could you post a screenshot of the webUI for the N1?
Upon a reboot these are usually a few seconds apart.
I suspect Roon Server is using up all the RAM and causes Roon Server to crash.
The lack of an error doesn’t make my theory hold up though, but you have a Nucleus device, so things could differ slightly with the Roon Labs Software.
I had the same experience during the recent issue with a memory leak. All usable RAM would get used and cause Roon Sever to crash. I could see the RAM use by running Roon on DietPi.
So when I tested it on Roon Rock and had the same experience I knew what was occurring.
@Mike_LC usually if music is playing during the time of a backup, an error is displayed saying the backup failed.
The lack of any error is the mystery and will need a Roon Devs to investigate.
@Aad_Hordijk do you have any Chromecast or Google TV devices on your network. They may not be in use with Roon, but this memory leak was related to Chromecast devices having an effect on Roon.
The latest Early Access appears to have fixed this issue for me.
If you navigate to Roon Settings → Library → Clean Up Library, do you see a large amount of items listed there? I am wondering if you have old items from a previous media location that could be taking up library resources.
Hi Norris, I posted the screenshot you requested in the thread dedicated to my reported problem. I forgot to post it in a specific response to your request.
When installing a Roon Server update (i.e., most updates) on Roon OS, the server restarts but the OS does not, so the OS uptime is usually longer and that’s not generally a problem.
I does show that your didn’t reboot the Nucleus in this time, so may be worth a try.
