@dylan: it worked!!! So it appears to have been database corruption. Just another good reason for users to do backups. I do backup to two different targets (NAS and USB drive) every day. I am an old computer guy so too many backups are never enough.
Do you have any need of a copy of my old database for research, etc.? If so, let me know.
