Backup usability improvements

Similar feature suggestions:
I found plenty in the forum re. backups but nothing which describes these particular features so I’ve. raised this new Feature Request.

Screenshots and details:
I can’t include screenshots or any further details because I’m mid migration and my Roon setup isn’t working. Please message me for more details if required, by which time I should be back up and running.

Add indicator(s) to allow users to monitor Backups in progress before they finish.

I raised this Support Request because I wasn’t able to see whether my backup was running, at what rate it was progressing and how long it might take. These represent three requirements, the implementation of any one of which might have led me to not have raised the Support Request at all.

I notice that there were many new cases raised yesterday and anything which reduces the workload of the Support Team would be beneficial.

Settings>Backups needs to support multiple Backups Locations.

In Settings>Backups only one row is displayed even when multiple Backup locations have been configured. In my case the usual backup location was on my Mac Mini. I was trying to migrate from my Mac Mini to a MacBook and so I added a second Backup location to my Mac Mini so that the location was available to both machines. This second location wasn’t displayed in Settings>Backups and so I was unable to see whether it had finished.

If you View the Scheduled backups screen, you should see the list of all your configured scheduled backup locations, together with their current status. Are you not seeing this?

Thanks for your question @Geoff_Coupe

Please see the attached screen shot. I can see both configured locations but no status (e.g. “% complete” etc.)? I’m sure I’ve seen status of the type “Last completed on ” somewhere but I can’t see that now on this version. But it doesn’t display a progress while actually backing up.

Later edit: This doesn’t match what I said earlier, sorry. I guess that negates the second part of my earlier post. Thanks for pointing that out. These screenshots were taken on v2.64, I might have raised the request against v2.71 when I was backing up to a network share. I can’t be sure.

That screen would seem to suggest that the backups have not yet been triggered, because, as you say, on completion of a backup, you should see an additional status message: “Last successful backup at dd mmm yyyy”…

Perhaps revisit the screen after 4 days have elapsed?

BTW, if you do a manual backup, or force a backup, you should see progress messages…

I raised the support request because I couldn’t see any progress messages. That might have been because the backup that I had set off wasn’t displayed on the screen and so the progress wouldn’t have been either. Next time I need to do a backup I’ll make a note. Thanks again
