BBC Radio Stations "playback was interupted because a track failed to load". This error message keeps coming up on Roon when trying to play BBC Radio stations from both the desktop and the ipad. All other live radio stations play fine. I have checked anti virus software, and I think that roon is showing on the safe list. Please help.
Also forgot to add that my Dad (who recently passed away) was the expert in this, and used QNAP. We know this has got something to do with the music, and I’ve found the Roon server on the QNAP portal. Could this be something to do with the issue?
As this stream is in AAC format, the most likely cause on the face of it is that you / your late dad (my condolences) might not have installed the AAC and mp3 codecs on the QNAP.
To narrow this down:
Search for “Radio Paradise” (in the global search, the magnifying glass top right). Scroll to the bottom in the search results and choose “Radio Paradise: Rock Mix”
Hello, thanks so much for your help! Both the FLAC and MP3 streams work on this, but none of the AAC ones do. Help with next steps would be much appreciated; I’m not as clued up as Dad was! Thank you.
Thank you for being patient with me on this. I have managed to find the Roon server in QNAP, but I can’t figure out where to find the “RoonOnNAS/bin directory”. I’ve also gone to the John Van Sickle website it suggested, but I don’t know which one to press. I’ve attached pictures so you can see what I’m looking at.
As the RoonOnNAS page says “Make sure to download the amd64 version for Linux” and the JvS page recommends using the “git master builds”, we will go with this one:
It should be in (Your selected database location)/RoonOnNAS/bin
The selected database location in your screenshot points to the Roon Database folder, and there is the RoonOnNAS entry below it. The location of the Roon Database folder seems to be the top level of the QNAP volume.
Therefore, open the QNAP’s file manager and navigate to the volume’s top level folder > Roon Database > RoonOnNAS. If there is a bin folder, the ffmpeg file needs to be dropped in there (after unpacking the ffmpeg-git-amd64-static.tar.xz file from the download).
Once this is done, I think you must add execution permissions to the ffmpeg file as well. (Right-click it in the QNAP’s file manager > Properties, and enable the execution permission checkbox)
Thanks so much for all the detail. I think I’ve managed to do it but the error still remains. I have done a few more screen shots so you can see if it looks lik eit’s in the right place.
I see the troubleshoot instructions say to restart the server. I have refreshed the QNAP app centre, and closed down and reopened Roon (I can see it now says its using a ‘user supplied ffmpeg’ where before it said ‘default’. Is there anything else I need to do to refresh the server?
I’ve just restarted it and the whole computer, but unfortunately no luck. I really appreciate all of your help today, thank you so much. If any other thoughts come to you it would be great to hear you’re expertise. Thanks again.
I’ve just been playing around with rebooting it again and it works!! Thank you so much. Means a lot to my Mum especially to gets Dad’s stuff working again. Happy new year to you and thanks again.
That’s great to hear. No idea why it didn’t work immediately but I think it will be fine now. My condolences again, and I hope music can give you some good times.
Thanks for checking the solution as well, it means that my year’s work is done
