Been using this software for 10+ years and for the last several years, most releases suffer memory leaks. Most recently running on a Roon Nucleus 1, of course you can’t see how much memory Roon is using, but after a few days it really slows down, even with extra RAM. And the PC I use for Roon Remote, well that runs the same version and also leaks. Starts out using 500-800MB ram but after just a few days it’s up to 5GB.
If you can’t manage to fix the memory leaks can you at least provide a fix whereby Roon can reboot every day as an option….
Spot on. Let’s hope the next update will address this. Right now I can’t use my system, losing audio endpoint all the time. They fixed the Homepage problem but the other problems still exist
100k that is the maximum with original 4gb ram on the Nucleus. I would hope that 32gb would give me some benefit on the amount of tracks. Some updates on Roon are good and some are terrible. The 2.58 update was pretty sluggish on my system and made me reboot the One every day.
No. Roon OS simply crashes if it is out of RAM. (It does not swap RAM to disk). If it doesn’t crash, RAM is not running out and additional RAM is simply not used - it doesn’t speed up anything.
That’s on purpose precisely to avoid unpredictable performance under RAM pressure.
Well I can only tell you that when the One arrived with 4gb it had big problems just scanning the tracks before crashing. After switching to 32 everything went better. As I said it’s very sensitive to updates. I read that the system should get snappier and more responsive but the total difference happens with my system. I’m living on the edge
Thx for the info and it says that larger library will need more ram. We had some ram leaks some time ago that slowed down a lot of systems and an update that should fix it. I think we are back in the Ram gate again.
Yes because otherwise it crashes like I said. It also says several times that more RAM than the amount that is required to prevent crashes won’t speed up anything. (That’s always in reference to Roon OS only)
Just sayin‘ to focus your effort on the things that will actually address the issue you are experiencing
