Best native DSD DACs for use with HQPlayer?

Hi Everyone,
Got a new toy today…Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC…can folks take a look at the attached settings? Anything I have “wrong”? It’s playing fine and sounds great…coming from my RME ADI FS which also sounded great…but had to change some settings in HQPlayer c this dac so just wasnt sure what right looks like! I do have the DAC Correction engaged in Matrix!
Thanks
Doug

Hi @Douglasmaurer, congrats on your purchase… I don’t use embedded but here’s my take coming from hqp desktop.

Also, my experiences are with the May KTE, but I believe a lot of settings are similar.

For PCM
DAC bits: 20
PCM gain compensation: -6db
LNS15 dither is probably best

Always good to set max volume to -3db

I think quick pause should be unchecked.

The SDM modulator is preference, I prefer ASDM7EC-Super or ASDM7ECv2

You already have DAC correction enabled which is a huge plus. Jussi worked some voodoo magic with that.

As @ffk said, modulator choice is largely up to preference. For best technical quality and performance, the newest ASDMxEC-ul/light/fast/super are recommended. Also if you like to do DSD1024 with the Holo Audio, AHM7EC8B is recommended for that case.

Current default is ASDM7EC-fast.

Thanks Jussi and everyone for the tips! Definitely a fun dac to experiment with as it can do so much and sounds really great!

Ah, my mistake. I wasn’t look at the settings when I wrote that. Thanks!

One more question. I’m running v5.16.3 and I’ve noticed the closed-form-M16 filter seems to be missing. Has it been removed?

No, but maybe you are doing PCM output instead of SDM?

I’m curious if anyone here has gotten around to testing the Singxer SDA-6 Pro 2 in DSD direct mode and potentially getting measurements out of it? Saw a review go by and looks like the specs claimed would be good

Probably a bit late in the piece, but do you know if the following would have any impact on your findings:

  1. the latest firmware updates
  2. Upgrading the OP Amps
  3. Adding a linear power supply

I’ve had a LAiV Verse for just over a week and been throwing DSD512 at it. I think it’s plenty good for $850 but as I learn more my caution list increases. I wasn’t sure, nor could I find, if anyone had a chance to measure the DSD on this yet. @dabassgoesboomboom I think you had some way of doing something remote? Reach out, can share my notes and it’d be worth a try.
