Weāre thrilled to share our Black Friday deals with you a bit earlier this year! For a limited time, you can get our premium flagship Nucleus Titan at 20% off!
Why are people always so āentitled.ā Just because a company has a promotion in one geographic area, doesnāt mean it has to everywhere else. Why not feel happy for those that can get a discount? Itās not like they increased the price elsewhere.
@Tim_Laing, I thought you had a Nucleus One in your cart.
Entitled, thatās funny. I did have one in my cart back when they refused to sell it to me, and today, when I saw it was on sale I thought āmaybe I can finally get on boardā but, alas! Foiled again. And as a paying client, I guess Iām allowed to voice my displeasure on a public forum. Sorry if I upset you!!
Edit: when I say āoneā I mean āany Roon Box for a discounted priceā. Anyway itās too bad we canāt benefit from the lower price but, hey, itāll give us a head start on Tariff World.
You still have to factor in VAT (UK) vs no VAT (US) in the published price, and I suppose some import tax/tariff.
Anyway, itās not unheard of for prices to differ in export countries. HiFi companies from UK are often significantly more expensive in the US, for instance. Just one quick example, a Rega P3 is USD1,125 in the US, thatās Ā£892 by exchange rate. However, in the UK it costs Ā£660 (incl. VAT).
One may wish it to be otherwise, but there is a real overhead, after all, and one could also argue that customers at home shouldnāt have to subsidize those abroad. In any case, maybe there is a bit much blaming of Roon Labs for something that nearly everyone does.
Having lived overseas for 20+ years Iām more than aware of the pricing models that companies use to subsidise various markets. Not a problem. But if a company that survives on memberships offers certain members a deal on a product, but because of my geographical location - theoretically meaningless in the interweb age - Iām not eligible, I feel less like a member.
In this case, I understand that Roon has some kind of third party distribution arrangement for the EU. Of course, those guys balked at offering their clients, present and future, a deal. And thatās fine, except, no it isnāt. See aforementioned discussion re āMembershipsā.
The Black Friday special that Iām hoping for is a nice discount off lifetime membership. Iām ready to pull the trigger but just need to be incentivized. Hint, hint.
Iām not sure Roon want more lifetime memberships, itās money upfront but then those members go on to need support for the rest of their lives, potentially many years of using the service and paying very little for it overall.
Hence the appeal of lifetime memberships to some people, but it is not overall good for Roon as a business, IMO.
There have been posts on here from people who expect to be able to hand their memberships over to other people after their death, I suspect thatās already happened, Roon would never know.
āLifetimeā should have a membership time limit IMO.
If I were to take out lifetime membership now and live until 80 it would be about $3 a month income for Roon overall.
I wouldnāt expect a discount, not if I valued the service and wanted Roon to survive.
Annual memberships seems to be the balance between value for both sides, again IMO.
