· Box sets fragmented after the Roon 2.74 update

Previously grouped box sets in my library have split into multiple album entries after the box-set update. This affects multiple sets, not just one.

Example: Bob Dylan, The Cutting Edge, 18-disc Collector’s Edition now appears as four blue-cover entries. The main entry still displays an “18” badge, but disc 14 tracks 1–4 appear in a separate entry and are missing from the main entry.

We checked disc 14 track 1:
• DISCNUMBER is 14.
• DISCTOTAL and TOTALDISCS are both 18.
• All disc 14 files are in the same ■■ 12-14 subfolder within the box-set folder.
• Roon reports the file was last modified March 26, 2022.

Selecting all four fragments and running Edit → Rescan did not resolve it.

My Roon Server runs on an iMac; music files are on a Synology DS925+ NAS. The version verified October 30 was Roon 2.74, build 1716.

Please investigate why previously grouped sets split after updating and whether there is a library-wide repair. Manually merging every affected box set would be substantial work.

Are you following the revised rules for box sets as laid out in this Help article?

lol. I guess not. I better hurry up and change my thousands of albums now

Hi @Daniel_l,

You don’t need to edit every album in your library; you just have to make sure subfolders don’t have multiple discs combined so Roon knows how to handle those CDs relative to the rest of the box set.

Let’s start with the example you shared. Disc 14 shares a “12-14” folder with two other discs from the set. Roon’s updated logic expects one subfolder per disc, which likely caused the split. Edit Album -> Merge regroups sets individually, or you can move Disc 12 and 13 to their own subfolders and re-scan.

We’ll watch for your reply and proceed from there. Thanks!
