[Roon 1.8 is displaying the wrong artwork in some cases. Selecting the Metadata preference for the File to display the artwork for an album gives the wrong artwork. Selecting Roon gives the files artwork. It’s completely backwards. In addition, Roon is using the artwork from folder.jpg instead of what is actually embedded in the file. I was considering a lifetime subscription, but this bug is so atrocious I am re-considering. I cannot upgrade Roon beyond 1.8 as that would require purchasing a new Mac to host Roon, something I am not willing to do at this time. See linked quicktime clip. (https://youtu.be/xz2A-WtWEi0)
Key thing to keep in mind is that, for local files, Roon picks the largest of many images to use as the canonical artwork for the album. So if the embedded artwork in any of your tracks is larger than the Folder.jpg, it will be used. And if you switch your preferences/methods in your Import settings, you will need to perform a library re-scan and wait for Roon to reprocess things.
Hello @Blair_Thornton ,
Thanks for reaching out. Roon 1.8 is no longer under development and will not recieve any changes. Since you mentioned you are not able to upgrade the app, I will suggest OpenCore patcher. It doesn’t have any association with Roon, but I was able to use it, as well as other Roon users to upgrade legacy macOS to a newer one.
If you navigate to Roon Settings → Library → Import Settings, you should be able to set perfer file. But yes, it is expected for Roon to pick up those folder.jpg artworks.
