The MXN10 has a digital preamp function that can be used with the analog RCA outputs. But since I am using the digital coax output into my Schiit Bifrost 2/64 DAC, I would like to use DSP volume. Does anyone know why this option is missing? Preamp mode is deactivated in Cambridge’s native app StreamMagic.
From another Roon user: It was never offered (at all) for networked devices like streamers. So how can it be missing? Use “Device Volume” for your network streamer and enable the volume control feature on the streamer if necessary/supported. Contact Cambridge user support if you need help to setup/configure your Cambridge streamer.
It is not offered for networked devices. Use device volume instead or connect directly to a device that runs Roon (just Roon, Roon Server or Roon Bridge) – no guarantee for the later advice from me though (too many rarely used setup possibilities).
Create a new thread in Feature Suggestions or add your vote to an already existing one if you think that Roon should change in that regard (little chance of getting implemented tough IMHO as there are strong technical and design philosophy reasons that speak against it). Use the forum search to see if there is one already.
Because of latency (time until volume changes are heard, different amount of time passes in grouped zones of differing devices). See also:
The intention behind Roon’s UI is to not show you unavailable options (on a case base) like “DSP Volume” or “Exclusive” access (to audio devices) or … the list is long. A design choice we users have to learn to deal with.
As a guideline: If an option gets presented but does not work (as intended/expected) a posting in Support is usually warranted. If an option is missing, then asking for clarification in Roon Software Discussion is usually the better choice. In any case is searching the forum first considered good practice as it contains years of experience and answers to common and even not so common questions.
Thanks for taking the time to write in, and welcome to the community! We’re happy to have you here, you’re in good hands with the information @BlackJack provided.
Thank you for the tip on this as well! We’ll get some additional information added for clarity there. I’ll go ahead and mark @BlackJack’s response as a solution in this case, but definitely let us know if you run into any additional questions or issues along the way!
