I have 500GB of music on a Dell I5 laptop. Can I connect to my Nucleus with a 2T hard drive using a USB or other cable and drag the music to the Nucleus ? I used the laptop as my Roon core before buying a Nuc last December. My laptop now has no Roon software on it so even though it’s on the same network they don’t seem to see each other.
My iPhone 13PRO has ARC downloaded but it won’t connect to the Nucleus . It connects fine running Roon.
[Moderator Edit: This will be addressed separately by Roon accounts via PM].
@Joseph_Grauer, I moved this to the Roon Software Discussion category, but it seems you have a mix of technical and account questions. I will include you on a DM to the Roon accounts team, but recommend you create a support ticket in this Support link.
The problem would appear to be not seeing the Nucleus on your network , I assume Windows ? Are you asking about adding another external USB drive , in which case the answer is yes , you just need to plug it in and go to Settings>Storage and set it up
How is the Nucleus connected to the router , it should be a Ethernet cable
The Nucleus should appear in the network section , this is my NUC the Nucleus should be the same . Then you can manipulate the data . Copy & Paste , Drag and Drop etc to the Nucleus drive . The internal drive and all folder will be accessible.
This is how mine looks, Internal Storage is the SSD inside the Nucleus , mine has an external USB as well.
You could try installing the Roon software onto the lap top, although to copy you don’t need Roon installed simply OS copy tools. You should be able to connect to the server and control it from the lap top even though the server is elsewhere.
I have a Nucleus with a 2TB SSD drive connected to my router with a USB cable. It works fine. I have 500GB of music on a laptop. When I want to put music onto my Ipad I connect them with a USB cable and drag the music from the laptop to the IPad. Same with my IPhone. What I want to know is if I can connect my laptop to the Nucleus with a cable and drag the music to the Nuc. My laptop refuses to load remote Roon app. I use windows 11 and I don’t see anything like the Network/Main PC diagram you show. I’m not very computer savvy, that’s why I just want to hard connct with a cable and drag .
Why don’t you connect the 2 Tb USB drive to a USB socket on the Nucleus , connecting to the router seems odd.
You network isn’t clear, do you have the Nucleus connected to the router via ethernet , how is the laptop connectEd ?
in my opinion , the best method is
Connect USB Drive to Nucleus USB port
Connect the laptop to the same network
You should now be able to see the USB drive on your network
Transfer any files by Copy Paste/ Drag n Drop
Done
Maybe read this KB article , all will become clear. The nucleus and NUC/ROCK are effectively identical.
I have a Nucleus with an internal 2TB SSD drive purchased from Roon last December. It is connected to my router by an ethernet cable. It works as it should. Separately I also have a Dell laptop, CoreI5 connected to my network wirelessly. I had my roon core on this laptop before I bought the Nucleus. I have since deleted the roon core from the laptop It won’t let me download the roon remote app on my laptop. The laptop has 500GB of music in ITunes on it. The music in the ITunes appeared in Roon when I was using the laptop as a core. To review I have a Nucleus with an internal 2TB SSD drive which works fine. I have a laptop with 500GB of music on it I’m trying to get onto the 2TB drive in the Nucleus. I’ve read the way they suggest o transfer the music on the roon site. I can’t figure it out. I’m looking for the easiest way to get the music from my laptop to the roon nucleus. To say I am not very computer literate is an understatement. I can connect my IPad to my laptop with a USB cable and drag music to it. Can I connect the laptop to the nucleus with a USB cable and drag content to the Nucleus hard drive? That is my question.
