Describe the issue

Can no longer stream from Roon to Wiim mini

Describe your network setup

Roon Server on NUC Windows 11
Roon on Android phone and MacBook OS X
Wiim mini
Wireless router connections for all devices, all are on same network 192.168.1.x
Amp Aiyima T9 w Wiim mini connected to Optical in and NUC connected to USB.
-
Suddenly Roon will not play through my previously fine Wiim mini. Roon will play through other devices on network by USB, same amp has Wiim connected to Optical in and only fails when playing Roon through Wiim.
Wiim mini will still play to optical w/ Tidal connect and other Wiim apps, but it no longer has audio if I play from Roon to Wiim. Roon and shows no errors for the Wiim device.
Roon will play to same amp through USB, no problem.
-
Roon shows signal path playing to Wiim w/ Airplay which leads me to think this has something to do w/ having a Mac w/ Roon on same network as Server on Windows maybe?
All of this worked w no problem until yesterday when sound just dropped off.
-
I have restarted all devices multiple times, and have disabled and re-enbled Wiim in Roon>Audio.
-
Somewhat complicated explanation, I know. Basically Roon will play through USB, no longer through Wiim. Wiim will play it's own apps, no longer plays Roon

Hi @Arnie_Sherman,

Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear you’re having issues with your Wiim device. From your account page, I only see a windows 11 running Roon Server at the moment.

If possible, could you boot up the Wiim device and attempt to play music to reproduce the issue? When you do this, share the specific date, time and track you attempted to play.

From there, we should be able to pull a fresh diagnostic report to hopefully get a better idea of the failure.

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thanks!

Thanks, here’s what I just did…
Rebooted NUC running Windows 11 and Roon Server.
Rebooted MAC w Roon
Power cycled Wiim mini by unplugging and replugging USB
Verified all 3 are on network.
Enabled Wiim Mini in Roon>Audio
11:07 AM local time GMT-7 tried to play By This River (Live at the Acropolis) Brian Eno
No sound, did not play through Wiim Optical out

Switched Roon to USB out and was able to play this song.
Switched to Tidal Connect in Wiim app and was able to play this tune to Wiim Optical out without Roon in the picture.

Sorry about the bold font, not sure what happened there.

Hi @Arnie_Sherman,

Thanks for the update! I’m glad to hear it’s functioning outside of Roon at least.

As a next test, could you please review the resolution settings on the wiim? From the WiiM Home app, please select the device tab > tap device setting gear icon > Audio Settings > SPDIF Output resolution and share a screenshot here.

Could you temporarily test out hardwiring via ethernet?

Lastly, I’d be curious to see how things run on a fresh Roon setup. Below are the steps to perform this process:

Let’s get you on a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:
