Can Tidal work without the Roon library available? Getting timeouts…[Resolved - Jumbo Frames On issue]

The NAS where my local library files are located is unavailable (needs a drive rebuild :-/)

Should I be able to use Tidal through Roon even though the share for the library is not mounted?

I’m getting timeout errors but the log seems to say it’s caching the file from Tidal OK… does this mean there’s a problem with my local network or is the missing Roon library the culprit?

Hi @jimmy.kl ----- Thank you for the report! I use a NUC and a small external USB hard drive that contains a small library of media for testing purposes. I have ran the NUC without the hard drive attached and had no issues with accessing my TIDAL content.

Can you provide me with some further insight into this behavior you are reporting to us?

-Eric

@Eric It was my problem – I had turned jumbo frames off on my router but not in the network settings on my laptop, when I set it to standard there everything works.

I wonder if there is a way that Roon could detect jumbo frames are on and give you a warning?

Jumbo frames IIRC needs every device of the LAN to support it…or maybe thats just all the devices in the path needed from that endpoint to all the other endpoint it talks to…either way in my experience Jumbo frame is just trouble for 99.9999 of users

Tidal works fine for times when your main library is offline - as mine is now.

@wizardofoz Agreed. I just spent way more time trying to troubleshoot this problem than I would’ve ever ‘saved’ with slightly faster network speeds!

At least now I can listen to music while my NAS rebuilds… how did I end up an IT technician in my own home

Its a fate we all have to suffer from time to time. Its the Kiwi way

Hah, no jumbo frame on number eight wire!
