I am unable to control volume remotely. Even though I have selected ‘Device Volume’ on Audio Setup (see screen shot) the system shows ‘Volume Control Fixed’ when I try to adjust volume from my iphone App.
I used to be able to control volume from the App.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you.
Thanks for getting back to me. I have always been able to control playback volume from my device (iPad or iPhone) until I upgraded the software on the Sonore MicroRendu to 2.9 today so must be a settings issue between Roon and new MicroRendu issue?
The Mojo is a fixed volume device; there is no software volume control available to Roon or any other player.
The only way to control volume is using DSP volume in Roon
If you controlled volume via iOS, volume control was handled by the OS, and you weren’t sending bit-perfect to the DAC (it would most likely be resampled, too).
Hi Menzies, yes the Mojo Chord is connected to the MicroRendu via USB. Thanks for any ideas you have. I was able to control the volume previously via the iphone or iPad and the sample rate was not affected.
Thanks for your help Martin. I’m not sure I understand your advice. I do know that prior to upgrading the MicroRendu to latest software I was able to control the volume via my iphone or ipad and there was no apparent loss of bit rate according to the Chord or data on Roon interface. Are you saying I need to change a setting in Room relating to DSP?
The Mojo is a discrete FPGA DAC and has no hardware volume that a music player can control. The glass buttons control volume of the headphone amplifier.
If you have previously controlled volume via iOS, that goes through the OS mixer. This is usually fine on the go, but Roon DSP volume is likely to be more accurate.
With the MicroRendu, there is no such option, so set the Mojo to fixed volume, and control volume using a preamp, or select DSP volume.
Thanks for your efforts. I’m not particularly audio-savy so can you explain what you mean by “bit perfect” and what DSP setting I should have to get back to the situation I had previously - controlling volume remotely via iphone - without any change in sample rate being shown on the Mojo. Thanks
Usually not available for networked endpoints like the MicroRendu (latency issues) – only for locally connected endpoints (soundcard, USB-DACs). Device Volume usually works (the device in this case is the MicroRendu) if the bridge/streamer is configured to support it.
I support that, maybe check the MicroRendu settings first for anomalies.
Networked endpoints, i.e., Roon Bridge, do provide DSP volume control whether USB or S/PDIF. Likewise, so does the Poly. However, I can’t comment on the MicroRendu.
Networked endpoints (primitive networked audio devices {Roon Ready}) don’t. Roon does for locally connected devices (Roon Server, Roon, Roon Bridge they all do – maybe even the mobile variants Roon Remote? Not tested).
I cannot see a DSP setting? You’ll see from the attached jpegs that the Audio Setting for the Mojo is Device Volume yet when you click on the playback it shows Volume Control as ‘fixed’?
I reset the MicroRendu back to the last 2.8 version and the Device Volume control functionality returned. It is clearly a Sonore issue with their latest 2.9 release and I have advised them. Thanks to all who tried to help me. Much appreciated.
Update. The fix is simple. Volume control via MicroRendu and Mojo can be controlled by Software via MR tab at SonicOrbiter.com and Roon Ready icon. Simple fix in the end and shows that you can control volume when using Mojo DAC. Thanks for all help.
