Description of Issue

I’m unable to connect via ARC and error message states: Not ready Roon ARC will not be able to access your Roon core. I tried re-booting the modem.

Here follows Diagnostics data for Roon support:

{
“ipv4_connectivity”: {“status”:“NetworkError”,“status_code”:504,“error”:“error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined”},
“external_ip”: {“actual_external_ip”:“115.aaa.bbb.ccc”,“actual_external_ipv6”:“null”,“router_external_ip”:“null”},
“natpmp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“upnp_autoconfig”: {“server_ip”:“192.168.1.1”,“found_upnp”:true,“error”:“Did not find UPnP service with WANIPConnection on network”}
}

The diagnostics you’ve provided suggest that UPnP is not properly configured on your router.

Please first try the following steps:

  • Try to enable UPnP/NATPMP in the web administration interface for the router directly upstream from your Core
  • Try to manually open the port in your router’s port forwarding configuration
  • Make sure the IP/Port matches the Port listed in Roon → Settings → ARC
  • Check for any VPNs or Firewalls that might be interfering
  • Check if your modem is in Bridge mode

If you continue to experience difficulties, please tag the support team and include the following information:

  1. What is the make and model of your modem and router?
  2. Do you have any additional network hardware, like additional routers or managed switches?
  3. Who is your internet service provider and what is your geographic region?
  4. Is your Modem configured in Bridge Mode so that it operates only as a modem or do you have the ports forwarded on both?

Hi Martin, #support

Is the service name FTP or another one? I tried FTP but ARC still won’t work.

Can you explain how I’d manually open the port in my router’s port forwarding configuration?

External and internal ports are both listed as 20-21

Listening port in Roon is 55002 (port)

Roon core ip is 192.169.1.12 the same as the internal IP address for the FTP service

Modem / router Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 - TP-Link 8 PORT ethernet switch TL-SG1008D
I’m in Australia & my provider is Exetel - Ethernet to Nucleus+ - not in Bridge mode, I’m unsure of the correct port forwarding settings

Well-known standard protocols like FTP or HTTPS have fixed port numbers below 1000 and most routers provide predefined rules for that, so if you choose FTP it will autoconfigure the rule with the standard port for FTP, which is 20/21, like this:

However, apart from that the FTP label is just a name for the rule that doesn’t really matter. It’s the port number that is important. So if you create a rule from the predefined list that is called FTP, and then change the port number to Roon’s 55002, then it will use that.

ARC will send its traffic to port 55002 and your router needs to know what to do with traffic coming in on that port, i.e. forward it to the Roon Core.

That said, most routers provide a “custom” rule option where you can choose a port number and apply any name label you want, like “Roon ARC” or whatever, so in this case it’s better to do it like this just for clarity.

Your router’s manual normally has a section devoted to this. Or try this:

Thanks for your help, it seems that Roon has automatically configured ARC.

Great :slight_smile: Make sure to remove the FTP rule with port 20/21 in case it is still there
