Description of Issue

I am not able to get my Marantz NA6006 to show up as an audio device.

Turn off firewall, see if you can get AirPlay to work this way.

I don’t believe that the firewall is on or I wouldn’t see the AppleTV

What is the IP address of the 6006? Is it on a different IP subnet because of the ethernet connection?

Hi @Owen_Bakken

It looks like this switch offers some of the features of a managed switch, which we tend to recommend against, as noted in our Networking Guide. There are definitely some features that could prevent Roon from being able to communicate properly, so the configuration might be causing issues here.

Are you able to bypass the switch and connect directly to the router?

Alternatively, if you connect the Mac Mini to this switch, does that work?

I connected the Mac Mini to this switch with an ethernet cable instead of the wireless connection it was using and getting the same results. I can ping the NA6006 from the Mac Mini so I know that they are on the same network subnet. I am only using the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet in my house.

The NA6006 is Roon tested not Roon ready:

“Roon Tested devices work over USB, HDMI, AirPlay, Google Cast, and other protocols. They have been profiled by the Roon team to ensure simple setup and effortless daily use.”

So it can connect via AirPlay but not RAAT.

If you can get a USB input from your Roon Core or Bridge and have the NA8006 switched on and the USB input selected on the player it will show up

Hope that helps. I was really disappointed with the integration of Denon and Marantz players when it eventually came through.

That does help. If I connect over AirPlay what is the highest sampling rate I can achieve, will I get “ Hi Res”? I love the Marantz for streaming but hate the HEOS interface, it is junk and that is why I so badly want to get Roon working.

The way I work this is to have a USB connection from my NUC and that works well,

AirPlay can stream lossless files up to 16-bit / 44.1 kHz using the Apple Lossless Audio Codec, So is not using the full capability of this DAC

I also a use raspberry Pi with a HiFiBerry HAT to provide a coax stream that the Marantz DAC can work with and it sounds great. Obviously you need to select the appropriate input with HEOS and choose how you control volume.

In a similar use case I have a RPi 4 with a HiFiBerry Digi HAT optical out and the USB out running on Ropieee. I can connect the optical out and the USB out simultaneously to my receiver and Roon identifies them correctly as two different endpoints. Opens a lot of options like DSD or HiRes via USB or 192/24 via optical.
Volume control is with the AVR remote

Thank you for all your help. It cleared up the questions I had.

NA6006 should be Roon Tested via AirPlay 2

Did you upgrade the firmware for you device?
I would also recommend to reset your device to the default factory settings.

NA6006 does not provide a USB DAC function, it does not support USB input. The higher end model ND8006 (roughly doubles the price) does provide a USB DAC function.

USB cannot be used in this case, but optical will work.

However, the problem of why AirPlay is not showing up is not solved. If a Roon Tested AirPlay device cannot be used via AirPlay without additional hardware purchase for Roon Bridge, I cannot consider this issue as solved.

It will work with Airplay but I want the higher sampling rate that is available with Tidal and Qobuz specifically 24/192 and that rate is not available using Airplay.

If I use a RPi4 as a bridge and connect it USB to my Marantz NA6006 and use the Marantz DAC I wouldn’t need the HiFiBerry hat would I?

One easy way is to use usb to opt/coax converter like Topping d10. From your mac mini usb to Topping and from that optical to your Marantz.

The 6006 had no USB input to access the internal DAC as others already mentioned.

Whilst HEOS may be bad, its remote integration in your phone helps and is better for queue management.
I tend to play music to my HEOS devices via ROON, I’ll then control them with the Android app in HEOS as you get noticifactions in HEOS but not ROON android
